Archie Mann
turns 91
Grey Township native, Archie
Mann now of Listowel formerly of
Moncrieff, was honoured on the
occasion of his 91st birthday during
the past week.
On his actual birthday Feb. 11,
he joined local friends who
gathered at Smith's Snack Bar,
Listowel where a decorated
birthday cake was served with
morning coffee.
On Saturday, Feb. 13 family
members gathered at the home of
his granddaughter and her husband
Lorrie and Neil Baker, Clinton. A
musical afternoon and a birthday
dinner was enjoyed complete with
a decorated cake.
He has a son, Robert Mann,
Clinton and a daughter Mrs. Harold
(Marion) Roberts, Listowel. One
son, Bill Mann, died in 1986.
Archie's wife, Pearl, died in 1988.

On Monday evening Doris
Jacklin, Dorothy Dilworth and
Grace Smith hosted 13 tables of
euchre at the Ethel hall.

week holiday on Margarite Island,
north of Venezuela.
They were joined the second
week by Ron and Betty McCallum,
ENRICHMENT AT
TURNBERRY CENTRAL
SCHOOL

On Tuesday, Feb. 2 and
Wednesday, Feb. 3, three grade
eight students, Joanne VanKeulen,
Shannon Conley, and David
Proulx, participated in an
enrichment workshop at Tumberry
Central School. The topic at this
year's workshop was media
literacy: radio.
The enrichment class took a tour
of the CKNX radio station in
Wingham and compiled a radio
program which was recorded. This
workshop was enjoyed by all
participants. All grade seven and
eight students at Grey Central
partook in the earlier stages of this
program. Phil Maine and Scott
Pettigrew from CKNX came to
Grey and spoke to the students. The
students enjoyed all parts of this
program.
SKIING AT TALISMAN

Once again grades five to eight
had the privilege to go to Talisman
Mountain Resort on Tuesday, Feb.
9. Everyone had an enjoyable time
and no one came home with major
injuries. It was a huge success and
we hope the school can go for years
to come.
VALENTINE'S DANCES

Grades five to eight get to attend
two Valentine dances. One is being
held at Grey Central School on
Feb. 11. The other is taking place at
the Ethel Community Centre on
Feb. 13. These dances are both
organized by the student council.
Walton; Ron and Dorothy
Williamson, Seaforth; Kevin
Williamson and his fiance Joanne,
Seaforth.
Prior to that they met with
Harold and Ann Bragg from
Cranbrook, who were staying at the
same motel.
THE HUNDREDS DAY

Miss Rose and Mrs. Richmond's
classes had a great time at the
Hundreds Day party. The classes
celebrated the hundredth day of
school. All the students had a great
and enjoyable day experimenting
with things having to do with
hundreds.
Pearl reported the weather was
lovely and warm and everybody
came home with a good tan.
Mrs. Ruth Thamer visited with
Betty and Allan McCall on
Saturday. Other supper guests who
were glad to see Ruth were Bev
Stevenson and Chris, Walton, Ron
Glad to report Brian Van
Steelandt, RR 1, Blyth returned
home after being seriously injured
in the Ripley Midget Tournament
Saturday, Jan. 30.
Chris Stevenson, one of his team
mates received a phone call from
him Saturday afternoon from his
home. He had recovered from
surgery in Owen Sound enough to
come home, but will be unable to
Stevenson and Nicole Olejnik who
were home for the weekend from
Ridgetown College.
Friends and neighbours of
Isabelle Shortreed are sorry to hear
she was taken to Clinton Hospital
Thursday evening. Hope you soon
feel better.
go back to school for two weeks, or
back to work.
We all wish you well, Brian, and
a successful recovery.
