Brussels Atoms sweep Goderich The Brussels Atoms met Goderich at home for the first game of a playoff series, Feb. 12. Goalie Stephen Oldfield earned a shut-out while his teammates notched six. First period scoring went to Trevor Wilson, with an assist by Ryan Smith. In the second Wilson and Joel Kellington combined to set up Nathan Conley, then Darrell Dalton scored off a Shawn Engel pass putting Brussels up by three. Con- ley notched another before the peri- od ended. Assists went to Carla Hunt and Kellington. PeeWees win 2 of 3 The Brussels Pee Wee Reps played some exciting hockey over the weekend. The Brussels team started their second round of WOAA playoffs in a series against a strong Drayton team. The first game was in Drayton on Feb. 10. Brussels opened the scoring when Adam Carr assisted by Scott Clarkson found the net. Drayton answered back with one of their own. In the second Andrew Exel scored assisted by Corey Newman. Drayton again tied the score at two. Steve Machan assisted by Clarkson gave Brussels the go ahead goal. Then the line of Chad McCallum, Exel and Newman scored three quick goals at the end of the second to give Brussels a lead of 6-2 going into the final period. In the third Drayton added two more but Brussels' Newman assisted by Exel secured the win with a goal. Final score was Brussels 7, Drayton 4. The second game was in Brussels Feb. 12. Outstanding defence by Brett Fischer, Jeff Finch, Scott Clarkson, Matthew Shortreed, Josh Beuerman and goaltender Jamie Thomas contributed to a strong team effort resulting in an 826 win over Drayton. But Belgrave wasn't stopping and in the third, Kevin Hopf scored, assisted by Tom Mullin and Tim Robinson. The three goals follow- ing were scored by Marks and Aaron Bakker with assists by Cameron. Matthew McLellan, off a play by Chad Fischer and Ryan Smith led things off in the third, then with 5:36 left on the clock, Joshua Gropp, assisted by Jason Arm- strong snuck one in the corner to finish the scoring. Two days later Goderich hosted Brussels, who skated away with a 5-1 win. There was no scoring action until late in the second period when McLellan off a play by Gropp and Darrell Dalton lit the light for Brus- sels. Three minutes later the team of Oldfield and Kellington set up Wilson for the insurance goal. Early in the third, Engel as he has before, made a smooth as silk play zeking past the Goderich goal- tender to give Brussels a three- point edge. Assists went to Sam Zahnd and Kellington.
