The finishing touches
This past Saturday, Brussels youth had the chance to go
into their new drop-in centre, The Ark, to install some of
their own personality to the place. Here intermediate board
member Dan McNeil paints a colourful welcome near the
door.

fundraiser
On Sunday, Feb. 7, the worship
service at Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship was led by Sylvia
Cameron. Lena Siegers ministered
by singing a solo, "'Tis the Gift to
be Simple".
A Drama, "Both Sides of the
Cup" was performed by several
members of the congregation. Alice
Knorr gave the message on the
topic "Jesus, Joy and Justice." The
scripture lesson was Luke 11: 37-
53, and was read by Mary Kuepfer.
Children brought gifts of
miscellaneous items to share with
the Survival Through Friendship
House.
On Sunday evening some
members of the congregation
participated in a hymn-sing at
Maple Villa in Brussels. The youth
met at the church on Saturday for a
while before going to Bill and
Rosemary Horne's for a time of
fellowship and fun.
Several committee meetings are
planned for the coming week. The
Missions Committee is sponsoring
a dinner next Saturday evening
with proceeds going to Somalia.
Communion was held at the
Sunday morning service on Feb. 14
at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship.
Elwin Garland was worship leader.
Elwin also presented the children's
story. Pastor Tom Warner preached
from Luke 24: 13-35. Destiny
Lichty and Amy Demaray provided
special music.
On Saturday evening a
Valentine's chicken supper was
sponsored by the Mission
Committee. All donations from the
supper will be sent to Somalia.
Over 100 people attended. Richard
McBride from Kitchener spoke and
showed slides of a recent trip to
several countries. He stressed the
concept of hopes in these places.
A special Renewal/Revival
weekend is planned for March 3-7.
Harold White from Minneapolis
and Alex and Grace McCready
from Burlington will be the guest
speakers for this weekend.
3 to meet the president of the
Rebekah Assembly as she paid her
first visit to the district.
It was decided to host a small
dinner in the Lodge rooms for the
president at 5 p.m. on March 23
when she makes her official visit to
Brussels. She will be accompanied
by District Deputy President Joan
Bernard.

Feb. 23.
Former Brussels resident Lawrie
Cousins, now of Redwood Lane,
London has recently retired after 25
years with the Dairy Inspection
Branch field office.
Lawrie was previously employed
in the local family business, Cous-
in's Creamery.
Once again Brussels area people
need not agonize over their income
tax return because they can't afford
to hire help.
Jill Seeds, of Brussels and Karen
Schmalz, both employees of Rev-
enue Canada, will be at the Brus-
sels Public Library on Feb. 20 and
March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to
do your tax return, free of charge.
All you need are your receipts.
If you have already completed
your return, Mrs. Seeds and Ms
Schmalz will check them for you.
The service is 100 percent confi-
dential.
Last year when the two came up
with the idea Mrs. Seeds saw it as a
way for her to give something back
to her community. However, she
stresses that people must come to
the library. If unable to attend they
can drop off the papers. Also, she
will be working at the Goderich
UIC office on Thursdays and the
Stratford office on Tuesdays from
9:30 to 3:30 as part of a govern-
ment move to make services acces-
sible to people by bringing them to
one spot, she said. At those places,
while the service is free, she will
only be permitted to provide assis-
tance; completing the returns is not
allowed.
Darts in Elora on March 21.

during the week of March 3. Any
veterans, ex-servicemen or women
or dependents wishing information,
advice or assistance regarding war
disability, pensions, treatment of
entitled veterans, or war veterans
and widows allowance should
contact the branch or Ted Elliott
prior to Feb. 10.
