Primary students take a snow-walk
On Wednesday, grades one and
one/two went for a snow-walk in
the bush, looking for signs of
animals in winter. They found lots
of small animal tracks and followed
them. There were many fox tracks.
they also found many interesting
insect nests.
They are enthusiastically looking
forward to "day 100" and doing
activities to reinforce the concept
of 100.
GRADE TWO/THREE
The grade two/threes have just
had a new experience. They had to

Caldwell. Ushers were Doug and
Barb Howson, Mildred Ament and
Ruth Webster. In charge of junior
congregation was Mary Lou
Stewart while Kristy Caldwell and
Tara Wilson took charge of the
nursery.
Rev. Ramirez opened the service
with call to worship. "To God Be
The Glory" was sung followed by
responsive reading. Scripture
reading was taken from Matthew 5:
13-20. The congregation sang "God
of Grace and God of Glory."
The choir sang "In the Garden"
accompanied by John Ramirez.

At the February meeting of the
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420
associate membership was
increased by 18 members.
Installation of members was
made by Comrades Clare Vincent
and William Vincent.
Donations were made to the
Huron County Mental Health
Association and Vanastra
Recreation Centre.
Plans to attend upcoming
Provincial, District C and Zone C-1
conventions to be attended by
members of the Branch were
finalized

We are very happy to report that
Harvey Garniss is well enough to
return to his apartment at the
Queens Villa.
Ferne McDowell is a patient in
Westminster Hospital, London. She
is wished a speedy recovery.

visited with Lloyd's sister Madaline
Harburn at the Zurich Nursing
Home Monday afternoon
There were nine tables of euchre
at Blyth Memorial Hall on
Monday, Feb. 1.
Winners were: high lady, Ella
Richmond; high man, Mel Jacklin;
low lady, Lillian Leatherland; low
man, Clara Rinn (playing as a
man); ladies' lone hands, Isobel
Craig; men's lone hands, Lloyd
Appleby; special, cards, Millar
Richmond, Clara Rinn, Evelyn
Christianson, Ella Richmond and
Bernice McClinchey.
Lost Heir winners for
Wednesday night, Feb. 1 were:
high lady, Mary Walden; high man,
Edgar Howatt; low lady, Erma
write a speech for their first time.
Jenny Ritchie wrote about
moving. She enjoyed writing her
speech, but when she had to say it
in front of the class she got really
nervous.
Nick Courtney wrote about his
younger brother, Brett. He had fun
writing the speech and he enjoyed
saying it to his class.
Amanda Baillie wrote her speech
about her sister Nichole. She
enjoyed writing her speech, but
when it came time to say it, she
was really scared.
"Elements of Christian Disciple-
ship". The service closed with the
singing of "0 Master Let Me Walk
With Thee", followed by
benediction and chorale response.
Floral arrangements were from
the funerals of Doug Brown and
Sherri Souch. Sympathy is
extended to both families.
Next Sunday is Family Sunday.
There will be no Sunday School. A
pot luck lunch will follow the
service, then from 1 - 2P .m. there
will be skating at the arena.
U.C.W. meeting is Thursday,
Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
At their regular meeting the
stewards of Blyth United Church
made plans for another evening of
The Blyth Legion Branch
nominated Glen McLachlan for the
Community Action Award 1993.
This award is given by the Ministry
of Citizenship to members of the
community who volunteer their
time to assist people who are
disabled.
Plans are being made to create a
Military Exhibit at the Huron
County Museum. This project is
being sponsored by the Legion
branches in Huron County. If
anyone has any articles they wish
to loan for this exhibit please
contact the Branch president at
523-9481.

The Blyth Lions Euchre was held
at the Blyth Community Centre on
Feb. 6. Winners were: first prize,
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Johnston;
second prize, Margaret Errington,
Bette Thompson; third prize, John
Watson and Derwin Carter, boozie
prize, tied, Mike Pelss and Jodi
Laporte and Martin Poirier and
Scott Rathwell and 50/50 winner,
Derwin Carter.
GRADE FIVES
The grade fives are busy doing a
unit on Medieval Studies. They are
doing well learning Calligraphy,
the art of beautiful writing.
Joy's piano teacher lent her an
antique pottery ink pot that she
used when she was a little girl.
Next, they plan on trying to use
feather quills to write.
SPEECHES
The students have been busy
working on their public speeches.
The grade six room competition
was held on the week of February
2-5. The three winners will then go
fun and excitement for the entire
community — "A Spring Madness
Talent Auction."
The first Madness Talent Auction
in the Spring of 1990 was a huge
success with over 175 items being
auctioned off to a full house of
Blyth and area people.
The stewards decided it is time to
let the community share their
talents again. On Friday, April 2
the "Spring Madness Talent
Auction" will be held at the Blyth
and District Community Centre.
Also included is a free "poor man's
gourmet lunch."
A former member of the
congregation Reg Badley, a local
auctioneer, will be creating an
evening of entertainment as he
auctions off the items.
More details will be forthcoming,
but in the meantime anyone
wishing to donate an item is asked

Anyone who can't think of a
talent they possess, can see the list
of items sold in 1990 posted at the
back of Blyth United Church.

on to further competition in the
gym against other opponents from
the Junior Division on grades 4-5
on Feb. 17.
In Science classes the students
are very interested in learning
about the planet Earth and the
knowledge of what happens in
outer space.
SKI TRIP
On Thursday, Jan. 28 the grades
seven and eight classes went to
Talisman. They left the school at 7
a.m. and arrived home at 9 p.m.
They got lift tickets and rented
equipment and then headed
outdoors to take a lesson.
Later the amount of ski-offs that
they passed determined which hills
they went on.
They were back at the chalet by
3:30 p.m. and were on the way
home at 4:00 p.m.
