Ad Hoc says more communication needed
By Lisa Boonstoppel-Pot
There's a need for improved com-
munication in the Village of Blyth,
an Ad Hoc Committee has discov-
ered.
The Ad Hoc Committee was
formed to review the existing oper-
ating system in the village, the peo-
ple within the system and possible
employee changes to an updated
system.
The committee held four meet-
ings with past and present council-
lors, village employees, ratepayers
and staff at other municipal offices
and found there was one common
concern—the need for improved
communication.
This is what Councillor Steven
Sparling revealed in a committee
report to council Jan. 26.
Other members on the committee
included Reeve Dave Lee, Council-
lor Doug Scrimgeour and Commis-
sioner David Webster.
The committee had five recom-
mendations to improve operating
efficiency in the village. They are:
—council and PUC share bi-
weekly meetings, PUC would dis-
continue its present meeting
arrangements
—concerning the shared meet-
ings, the Reeve and PUC chairman
would chair meetings alternately
—no additional remuneration
would be provided during the pilot
program
—the road committee be restruc-
tured to include one representative
from council, one representative
from PUC and the Reeve
—a staff meeting be held weekly
to monitor work in progress and
follow-up on issues discussed at the
joint council/PUC meetings.
The committee commended PUC
Commissioner David Webster, for
his initiative in proposing joint
meetings.
"This formed the basis for discus-
sion at subsequent meetings and
focussed the committee's attention
on the common concern," stated the
committee report.

I would like to thank my
