PAGE 17. Landfill committee explores recycling The issue of recycling is once again being discussed by the Blyth- Hullett Landfill Site Committee. Blyth Reeve Dave Lee reported to Blyth council Jan. 26 that the committee was " exploring the pos- sibilities of doing something with recycling." younger generation to go out into the work place to really find out what working is all about. My co-op placement will help me greatly because after high school I would like to go to college to go through for Agriculture Manage- ment. I figure I would have a great start by knowing different types of feeds, minerals and drugs that are added to feeds. I think co-op education is great, and I highly recommend it for you. Reeve Lee said there are many issues to be discussed such as the cost involved and how to find a system that would suit both an urban and rural municipality. "This has been discussed other times but it hasn't gone through because of the cost involved and because there was a question of does it make sense to recycle?" he said. Ratepayer Mason Baillie was at the meeting and he asked Reeve Lee if the committee was interested in making the landfill site last longer. Reeve Lee said that's what prompted the debate. Councillor Steve Sparling said he doesn't doubt many people believe in recycling but the crux of the matter is the economics of it. The discussion coincided well with correspondence council had received from the Grade 2/3 class at Blyth Public School. The students wrote expressing their anger that Blyth didn't have a recycling program. Candice Bearss wrote "I don't want Blyth to pollute with glass and plastic bags. We can reuse them or we should have blue boxes but we don't. Please dolt." Another student, Matthew Hill, wrote "I'm really mad that Ms. Lit- tle (their teacher) has to bring our tins and cans to the dump. Please start a bluebox program." Students learn through co-op ROB JOHNSTON By Rob Johnston Hi, my name is Rob Johnston. I am 17 years old, and currently in Grade 12. I am a student at F. E. Madill Secondary School, Wing-ham, where I am enrolled in co-op. My co-op placement is at Dauphin Feed and Supply, Walton and Dungannon. My supervisor at the Walton Mill is Bob Gordon of Belgrave and my supervisor at the mill in Dungannon is Gary Dauphin from Brussels, owner of the two mills. Some of the things I do while I am there are making different kinds of feed, bagging feed for customers, flour stocking, looking after customers and unloading and loading trucks. I think the co-operative course offered at F. E. Madill Secondary School is a great learning experi- ence for teenagers. It allows the DARYL GRAHAM By Daryl Graham Co-operative education. What a way to learn about the working world while earning marks and gaining credits which contribute to one's diploma. This is my second year in the co-operative programme based in an artistic branch of the work force. I am privileged to be able to work with Mr. Keith Roulston; the crew at The Citizen, a newspaper originating out of Blyth, and The Rural Voice, a magazine, that also is published in Blyth.
