S ports Sprouts edged by top team Blyth figure skaters earn various badges The Blyth figure and power skaters have all been skating very well this season. Megan Campbell, Kerissa Van Amersfoort, Taylor Hesselwood, Melissa Taggart, Sara-Mae Taggart, Michelle Nixon, Karin Schroecker, Sabine Schroeker, Jennifer Godfrey, Kerri Meier, Jessica Wheeler, Tyrell McClinchey, Megan Lee, Ryan McClinchey, Wesley Moore, Lisa Carter, Tonya Mason and Lindsay Penfound passed their beginner badge. Taylor Hesselwood, Jared Fisher, Cathy Caldwell, Amanda Cook, Kerrie Meier, Sara-Mae Taggart, Karin Schroecker and Jennifer Godfrey passed elementary. Justin Peters, Amanda Fidom, Candice Bearss, Robin Mason, Mandy Dunbar and Aaron McClinchey have passed basic. Dianne Mason, Jamie Lewis and Michelle Cook passed Novice I. Joshua Fisher and Jenny Ritchie passed Novice H. Pauline Blok, Melissa Campbell and Leanne Haggitt passed Novice III. Laura Meier and Vicky Black passed Novice IV. Laura Meier has also passed her proficiency. The following passed at Brussels on Dec. 3: Julie Ritchie, Junior Bronze Dance, Fiesta and Preliminary Figure and Kimberley Richmond, Second Figure. The following passed at Goderich on Dec. 9: Ashley Howson, Junior Bronze Dance, Willow and Rhonda Gibbons, Senior Bronze Dance, Ten Fox. Power skating has had a busy The Belgrave Novices skated away with an easy 12-3 victory over a visiting Elma Logan team on Jan. 30. Goaltender Travis Camp- bell played a great game in net, helping to hold the Elma Logan team back while the Belgrave offensive came on strong. Tykes Nathan Spivey and Belgrave Atoms beat Goderich After a loss to Brussels, the Bel- grave Atoms earned a win against Goderich two weekends ago. The well played game saw team cooperation as many players got scoring points. Goals and assisted were earned by Kevin Hopf, Tim Robinson, Matthew Snow, Craig Marks, Cur- tis Knight, Tom Mulin and Tyler Fenton. C ODE Self-sufficiency through literacy in the developing world time this year with 37 skaters participating. The skaters were tested on two dates Dec. 11 and Dec. 18. Seven skaters received their participation badge. There are six in Bronze I, five in Silver I, seven in Gold I, two in Bronze H, two in Silver II, two in Gold H and two in Bronze III. Congratulations to all skaters. The Brussels Bulls scored five third period goals for a 6-5 win over the Grand Valley Harvesters Sunday in Brussels. Greg McNevan, Ted Sills, Jason Baier, Steve Fritz with his second of the game and Jeff McKee (with 1:04 remaining on the clock) all scored in the final period as the Bulls overcome a 4-1 Harvester lead. The two points moves Brussels into a second place tie with Wingham, with the the Bulls having one game remaining Friday night in Hanover. Though the visitors came on strong in the first period scoring three. in the first, Brussels tagged on four in the third to close the gap. Brussels waited until the second to get on the board when Fischer T.J.Marks filled in for absent Novices Travis Hopper and Chad Cook. First period Belgrave goals went to Craig Marks, two and Curtis Knight. Justin Campbell notched two assists. The second period saw goals by Marks, Campbell and Knight for In a Saturday morning game against Seaforth, the hosting Brus- sels Sprouts gave the league's top team a run for their money holding them to a one point lead. Nic Jansen of Seaforth hit the mark first giving his team an early lead, then in the second another shot by Kevin Murray gave the vis- itors a definite edge. However, less than five minutes later, Geoffrey Banks, assisted by Tyler Campbell, lit the red light once again for the home team, narrowing the edge to one. Seaforth's Stephanie Weber notched on an insurance goal in the third off a play by Stephen Hender- son, which served its purpose as Campbell, assisted by brother Nic, brought the Brussels count to two. The game ended 3-2 for Seaforth. Scianitti was awarded third star. As well goaltender Trev Fortune, who posted a 4-0-1 record in January was named Bulls "Player of the Month". Steve Fritz (MVP), Nate Bender (Rookie), Tim Beyer (Defence) and Jonathan Lane (Sportsmanship) have all been nominated for league awards to be announced at the Western Jr C Banquet Saturday night in Mt. Forest.
