Hullett Township council
renewed the custodial contract of
Rosemary Johnston for the Londes-
boro Hall at its Jan. 5 meeting. Ms
Johnston will be paid $1,900 for
1993, plus $25 per booking in
excess of 100.
A resolution from Essex County
supporting the concept of sub-
scriber billing for the 911 Emer-
gency System was endorsed by
council.
Travelling with the wrong crowd
meant a day in Wingham's provin-
cial court for an RRI, Wingham
man charged with two counts of
break and enter.
Robert Lane, 20, appeared before
Judge R.G.E. Hunter on Jan. 20
after being arrested along with
three other young men for the Oct.
29 break-ins at Knechtel's in Luc-
know and the Triangle Discount in
Wingham.
According to Crown Attorney
Robert Morris Mr. Lane and the
others, who are all scheduled to
appear in court Feb. 17, had decid-
ed after leaving the hotel that
evening, they needed cash and
cigarettes. Mr. Morris said they
entered the Triangle Discount by
smashing the glass in the front door
with a tire iron. The alarm sounded
so they left quickly, but not before
stealing cash, cigarettes and lottery
tickets, Mr. Morris told the court.
The group then travelled to Luc-
know where they committed the
second offense.
Defense counsel Allan Mill noted
that while the other three men
were "familiar" with the court hav-
ing extensive records, Mr. Lane has
had no previous charges against
him. Also, Mr. Mill told the court
that Mr. Lane had not entered
either building but was instead

Centralia College
The Western Ontario Beef
Feedlot Day will be held at
Centralia College on Wednesday,
Feb. 3. The program is designed for
people interested in feedlot
production and the industry.
Topics on this year's program
involved peripherally.
"It is my opinion that if he had
not been in the company of the oth-
ers he wouldn't have been there at
all," said Mr. Mill. "I suggest this
young man will not appear before
this court again. He fell into it
because of the company he was in."
Judge Hunter suspended sentence
and placed Mr. Lane on one year
probation.

Council authonzed write-offs for
municipal drain assessment
totalling $12.24, as these are less
than the minimum collectible as per
township policy.
The accounts in the amount of
$375,030.40 for December were
approved with one exception.
The accounts in the amount of
$151.14 were approved. Councillor
T. Duizer declared a pecuniary
interest and did not vote.
