Belgrave Novices nudge Zurich by one goal
The Belgrave Novices nudged
out a visiting Zurich team by one
goal when the two faced off on Sat-
urday, Jan. 16. This was the Bel-
grave team's first game of the
season in Belgrave's own natural
ice arena.
Belgrave jumped ahead early
while shutting out the Zurich team
during the first period when Justin
Campbell scored tow goals.
Zurich got the edge back a little
in the second scoring two to Bel-
grave's ope. Lighting the light for
Belgrave this time was T.J. Marks
while Ken McCracken got the
assist.
Zurich added another in the third,
but it was Campbell's hat trick,
assisted by Craig Marks that put the
Belgrave team up by one.
Travis Campbell is credited with
the excellent turn in net.
The eager Belgrave players are
hoping for lots of cold weather so
they can play many more games at
home.
On Jan. 9 Belgrave came up
against a strong Stephen Township
team in a home game in Blyth. The
visitors outscored Belgrave by 9-1.
Craig Marks got the only Belgrave
goal in the third.
Tykes T.J. Marks and Nathan
Spivey filled in for Curtis and Gar-
rett Knight for this game as those
two players were away on holidays.

setting the stage for Jeff Coulter's
game winner at 6:32 of the final
period.
Trevor Fortune, the game's first
star made 29 saves, while Jason
Baier and Hanover's Jeremy Franks
were Formosa's second and third
stars respectively.
The game was hockey at its best,
fast skating, hard hitting and
excellent goaltending at both ends.
The Bulls travel to Goderich
Friday night and return home to
meet the Wingham Ironmen
Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls and Wingham continue
to fight for second place with
Brussels holding a three point lead
with each team having four games
remaining.
Friday night in Walkerton the
Bulls were literally forced to accept
a 2-2 tie when the Blackhawks
scored with no time showing on the
clock at the final buzzer.

Salverda sent Chris Stewart in for
the breakaway marker. Salverda
tied the game with six minutes left
in the second. Brian McNichol and
Jonathan Collins garnered the
assists as Blyth was enjoying a two
man power play. Brian McNichol
powerplay scoring at the six minute
mark.
The Hawks held their lead to the
final minute of second period play
when Steve Fritz set up Greg
McNevan to tie the game. Fritz
later set up Nate Bender in the third
gave Blyth their first lead of the
game with 15 seconds left in the
period after a nice give-and-go
passing play with Mike Salverda.
With Milverton's resident shift
disturber serving a 10 minute
misconduct penalty in the third,
Blyth took the game with three
unanswered goals. McNichol and
before the controversial tying goal
ended the scoring at 2 apiece.
Gary Bridge gave the Bulls
excellent goaltending in a game
every bit as exciting to watch as the
Hanover game Sunday.
Salverda teamed up again for a 4-2
lead as McNichol tapped one in
with a backhand shot. Brian Marks
upped the score to 5-2 by tipping in
Peter Craig's goalmouLh pass.
Christopher Howson completed the
scoring with three and one half
minutes remaining with assists to
linemates Jason Rutledge and Brian

The goaltending was shared by
Chris Lee and Michael de Jong
while the defensive work of Peter
Craig, Greg Toll, Jonathan Collins
and Henry Bos was the tonic Blyth
needed for this 6-2 and come from
behind triumph.
