Moving out
While the Blyth Atom Houseleague goaltender looks on, members of his team put on the
hustle to get the puck out of their end in Saturday's game at home against Brussels. Despite a
strong start, Blyth couldn't deter a determined visiting team, which went on to win 8-4.

Low sticking?
Strong competitive spirit has long been the trademark of the Brussels Bulls/Hanover Barons
face-offs and this little skirmish in front of the Barons' net during the first period shows how
heated things can sometimes be. The Bulls played the Barons hard in Sunday's game giving
the top Western Junior C team its first loss of the season.

Blyth Bantams rack up
three more victories
By Rusty Blades
The Blyth Bantams racked up
three more league wins last week as
they blanked Zurich 6-0 at home on
Jan. 11 before hitting the road and
trouncing Brussels 13-0 on Jan. 13
and stopping Milverton 6-2 on Jan.
14.
Against Zurich, Blyth used puck
control and Chris Lee's shut-out
goaltending on their way to victory.
Four goals in the first and two more
unanswered tallies in period two
sealed the game in Blyth's favour.
Brian Marks and Mike Salverda
set up Henry Bos' game opening
clapper. Jason Rutledge and
Christopher Howson then assisted
on Ryan Chamney's power play
goal. Michael de Jong assisted on
Blyth's third goal as Brian Marks
roofed the puck on a partial
breakaway. Brian McNichol
backhanded home Blyth's fourth
first period goal with assists to
Christopher Howson and Henry
Bos. Michael de Jong upped the
count to 5-0 early in the second by
trailing the play and depositing
Brian Marks' rebound through a
maze of legs. Late in the period
Peter Craig and Brian Marks
helped Chris Stewart give Blyth a
6-0 lead. The third period went
scoreless as Chris Lee shut out

Zurich 6-0.
It was all Blyth against Brussels
as Chris Lee came through with his
second straight shutout. Blyth had
period leads of 2-0 and 7-0 on their
way to a 13-0 final.
Peter Craig enjoyed a game at
forward as he registered four goals
and a single assist. Michael de Jong
also enjoyed a free wheeling game
at forward as he notched a hat trick
to go with two assists. Mike
Salverda notched a pair of goals
with single scores recorded by
Chris Stewart, Brian McNichol,
Brian Marks and Henry Bos.
Additional game assists went to
Chris Stewart with four, Brian
McNichol and Christopher Howson
with three each, and Brian Marks
and Mike Salverda with single
helpers.
The puck odyssey continued in
Milverton on Jan. 14 as Blyth
continued their league domination
with a 6-2 win in a fairly
disciplined and well played match.
Milverton's early 2-0 lead probably
played a large part in the quiet
affair as they notched two goals
before the game was three minutes
old.
Blyth responded with an early
second period goal as Mike

It was back and forth in the first
period but by the third, the Brussels
Atoms were clearly ahead of the
game against the Blyth Atoms Sat-
urday.
Brussels had the early lead when
Matthew McLellan, assisted by
Carla Hunt and Joel Kellington,
scored early in the first. Seconds
later, Blyth evened it up.
Brussel's Trevor Wilson followed
with an unassisted goal and then
another, assisted by Mark Stevens
and Jason Armstrong. In between
Blyth scored again.
Then McLellan struck late in the
first, assisted by Joshua Gropp and
Ryan Smith and Blyth never caught
up.
Brussels kept up the action in the
second period with goals by
McLellan, assisted by Wilson and
Darrell Dalton; Shawn Engle,
assisted by Sam Zahnd and Hunt
and Stephen Oldfield, assisted by
Wilson and Kellington.
A final goal by Chad Fischer,
assisted by Gropp and Kellington,
in the third gave the Brussels team
a 8-4 lead over Blyth.
