The holidays seemed to have
caught up with the Brussels Atoms
on Friday as they were dominated
by a visiting Blyth team on Friday
evening.
Blyth struck first hitting a drive
past Brussels goalie Stephen Old-
field, who had his work cut out for
him during the game as the Blyth
offense was strong. Then at 3:15
Trevor Wilson, set up by Joel
Kellington sent a shot past the vis-
iting goalie to tie things up.
The score remained unchanged in
th second but halfway through the
third the visitors once again took
the lead. then at 5:59 they tagged
Todd Norman made a triumphant
return to Brussels scoring twice and
setting up a third in leading the
Stratford Jr B Cullitons to a 6-4
win over the Western Jr C All-
Stars.
Stratford held period leads of 2-1
and 4-2 while outshooting the All-
Stars 41-32. Bulls goaltender Gary
Bridge made 14 saves in second
period action while Steve Fritz
The Brussels Bulls hold a four
point lead over the Wingham
Ironmen and a six point lead over
Grand Valley in the fight for
second place after weekend Jr C
action. Each club has six games
remaining.
Friday night in Wingham the
Bulls played one of their best
games of the year in defeating the
Ironmen by a 5-3 score.
Greg McNevan, who scored 40
seconds into the game, and Josh
Alexander gave Brussels a 2-1 first
period lead while Steve Fritz,
on an insurance goal sparking the
Brussels team into action. Just six
seconds later Matthew McLellan
off a play by Chad Fischer nar-
rowed the edge by one, but time ran
out and the visitors went home vic-
torious.
It was a different story however,
when Brussels travelled to
Goderich on Jan. 9 to play the
Hawks and trounced their hosts by
10-3.
The first period was Brussels all
the way as the team scored four,
while shutting out Goderich.
Trevor Wilson and Stephen Old-

seconds later giving Brussels a 5-1
lead.
The third period was more like
the first with neither team manag-
ing to slide one into the-net. Then
Bromley and Brad Beuermann
teamed up for a play to Robinson

shorthanded, and George Carnegie
increased the lead to 4-2 after two
periods. Brian Zabel's third assist
of the night set up Jamie Scott for
the insurance goal four minutes
into the final period. The Bulls
penalty killers nullified 13 of 14
powerplay opportunities assessed
by referee Jeff Scott.
Sunday afternoon the Bulls
scored three times in the games
final five minutes for a 6-5 win
over the visiting Mt. Forest
Patriots.
Nate Bender led the way with
three goals plus an assist, including
the game tying and game winning
goals nineteen seconds apart, while
linemates Jonathan Lane scored
twice and George Carnegie added a
shorthanded goal. Lane also added
two assists while Josh Alexander
set up three Bulls' goals. For their
efforts Bender, Lane and Alexander
were named the Formosa Three
Stars.
Blocking the way
Goalie Ron Wilts of the Blyth Christian Reformed Church team put a stop to this opposing
Listowel scoring machine Saturday night in the Blyth arena in a game against Listowel CRC.
Mr. Wilts did his job and let only five goals in while his teammates managed to score 10 goals
giving them a victory, their second of the season.
scored a third period powerplay
goal. Also representing Brussels
was winger Greg McNevan, who
was one of the four bursary
winners, as was Bulls teammate
Brian Zabel.
Norman, who played Junior C for
the Bulls last season was named
Player of the Game for Stratford
while Goderich forward Todd
Papple took the honor for the All-
Stars.
