The Western Jr C All-Stars put up a good fight but were downed by the Cullitons 6-4. Brussels players on the All- Star team were Gary Bridge, Steve Fritz and Greg McNevan. Zurich answered back with only one at 4:57 in the second, but Brussels retaliated with a shot from Bromley to Clarkson just 17 The holidays seemed to have caught up with the Brussels Atoms on Friday as they were dominated by a visiting Blyth team on Friday evening. Blyth struck first hitting a drive past Brussels goalie Stephen Old- field, who had his work cut out for him during the game as the Blyth offense was strong. Then at 3:15 Trevor Wilson, set up by Joel Kellington sent a shot past the vis- iting goalie to tie things up. The score remained unchanged in th second but halfway through the third the visitors once again took the lead. then at 5:59 they tagged Todd Norman made a triumphant return to Brussels scoring twice and setting up a third in leading the Stratford Jr B Cullitons to a 6-4 win over the Western Jr C All- Stars. Stratford held period leads of 2-1 and 4-2 while outshooting the All- Stars 41-32. Bulls goaltender Gary Bridge made 14 saves in second period action while Steve Fritz The Brussels Bulls hold a four point lead over the Wingham Ironmen and a six point lead over Grand Valley in the fight for second place after weekend Jr C action. Each club has six games remaining. Friday night in Wingham the Bulls played one of their best games of the year in defeating the Ironmen by a 5-3 score. Greg McNevan, who scored 40 seconds into the game, and Josh Alexander gave Brussels a 2-1 first period lead while Steve Fritz, on an insurance goal sparking the Brussels team into action. Just six seconds later Matthew McLellan off a play by Chad Fischer nar- rowed the edge by one, but time ran out and the visitors went home vic- torious. It was a different story however, when Brussels travelled to Goderich on Jan. 9 to play the Hawks and trounced their hosts by 10-3. The first period was Brussels all the way as the team scored four, while shutting out Goderich. Trevor Wilson and Stephen Old- Continued on page 18 seconds later giving Brussels a 5-1 lead. The third period was more like the first with neither team manag- ing to slide one into the-net. Then Bromley and Brad Beuermann teamed up for a play to Robinson ..who shot the last goal of the game past the Zurich goalie with 3:30 remaining. shorthanded, and George Carnegie increased the lead to 4-2 after two periods. Brian Zabel's third assist of the night set up Jamie Scott for the insurance goal four minutes into the final period. The Bulls penalty killers nullified 13 of 14 powerplay opportunities assessed by referee Jeff Scott. Sunday afternoon the Bulls scored three times in the games final five minutes for a 6-5 win over the visiting Mt. Forest Patriots. Nate Bender led the way with three goals plus an assist, including the game tying and game winning goals nineteen seconds apart, while linemates Jonathan Lane scored twice and George Carnegie added a shorthanded goal. Lane also added two assists while Josh Alexander set up three Bulls' goals. For their efforts Bender, Lane and Alexander were named the Formosa Three Stars. Blocking the way Goalie Ron Wilts of the Blyth Christian Reformed Church team put a stop to this opposing Listowel scoring machine Saturday night in the Blyth arena in a game against Listowel CRC. Mr. Wilts did his job and let only five goals in while his teammates managed to score 10 goals giving them a victory, their second of the season. scored a third period powerplay goal. Also representing Brussels was winger Greg McNevan, who was one of the four bursary winners, as was Bulls teammate Brian Zabel. Norman, who played Junior C for the Bulls last season was named Player of the Game for Stratford while Goderich forward Todd Papple took the honor for the All- Stars.
