Morris gets funds for waste reduction program

announced Dec. 17 approvals for a
total of $8,032 for Morris
Township for its Blue Box and
home composting programs.

At a special session of East
Wawanosh council Dec. 21, coun-
cillors decided to double building
permit fees to those who don't fol-
low the rules.
This means any person who
allows construction to begin on a
building without first obtaining a
building permit will have their
building permit fees doubled.
In other council news, East
Wawanosh councillors supported
the preference of the executive
committee of the County of Huron
that county council be made up of
27 representatives, one per local
municipality and two for the town
of Goderich.
They also supported a resolution
from the Town of Newmarket ask-
ing the provincial government to.

thing impacting upon matters of
local municipal concern such as
land use planning, conflict of inter-
est, disentanglement and amend-
ments to the Municipal Act.
A resolution from the Township
of Hamilton petitioning the Min-
istry of Municipal Affairs to autho-

prohibit site grading, excavation,
removal of soil or peat and fill
placement, to prevent destruction to
wetland areas, was supported by
East Wawanosh council.
The Blyth District Area Fire
Board 1993 proposed budget was
presented to council for their
approval. Council approved it in
the amount of $56,350, up from
$54,640 last year.

leadership
The Huron County Junior
Farmers are seeking nominations
for their Rural Leadership Awards
to be presented at the Organiza-
tion's annual banquet, Jan. 23 in
Holmesville.
The Junior Farmers welcome
individuals and/or organizations to
nominate people for the Rural
Leadership Awards. The awards
are presented to people for
leadership, dedication and
contributions to agriculture and the
rural community in Huron County.
Huron County is known for its
strength and direction in agriculture
and rural living. This comes from
its people.

involvement in his local
community and the world at large.
We are very close to our 1992 goal
of 25 per cent waste diversion from
landfill. By the year 2,000, I am
confident we will be diverting up to
50 per cent."

Inn Community Centre, a non-
profit centre which provides
community services such as seniors'
lunch and visitation programs,
youth counselling, women's clubs
and summer camping for
economically disadvantaged
residents of the north end of
Hamilton. He has served on the
board of Conrad Grebel College at
the University of Waterloo, and is
currently a member of their
building commit-tee.
His academic involvement
included teaching and preceptoring
students in Health Administration
at McMaster University and
Lakehead University. He is a
Certified Health Executive as
Program and the Municipal
Reduction/Reuse Program as part
of Ontario's Waste Reduction
Action Plan, the highly successful
drive to promote the 3Rs — Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle - in local
communities.

He retains an involvement in
international development as a
founding member of the Waterloo
chapter of Mennonite Economic
Development Associates (MEDA)
and a directorship on the Canadian

Africa.
Mr. Koch is married, with two
daughters aged 17 and 13 and a
son, 10. His wife, Erla, is an
elementary school teacher currently
employed by the Wentworth
County Board of Education.
The township of Morris was
allocated $4,832 for its successful
Blue Box program. An additional
$3,200 is to be used to buy 100
backyard composters for residents
eager to participate in the
composting program.
"The Blue Box and home
composting programs have become
part of daily life in Huron County.
It makes for fewer trips to the
landfill and it extends the life of the
landfill site. We all want to help
Ontario's environment," Mr. Klopp
said. "Today three million homes
use the Blue Box and collect over
420,000 tonnes of valuable
resources every year. And over
800,000 households use
composters to reduce domestic
wastes by as much as one-third."
