Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 20, 1984—Page 8 Petitions object to location of sewage facility mWest Wawanosh The June session of West Wawanosh Township Council was held on Tuesday, June 5, 1984, in the office of the municipal building. The meeting started at 8.00 p.m. with the deputy -reeve and three councillors in attendance. A. motion by Councillor Todd, seconded by Councillor Hickey, and approv- ed by Councillor Raynard, appointed Dep- uty -Reeve Brindley to preside in the absence of the Reeve. The minutes of the May meeting were adopted as printed on motion of Councillors ,Todd and Raynard. Gerry Priestap and Ron Alton attended the meeting, and presented a petition, signed by fifteen West Wawanosh property owners and two Ashfield property owners, objecting to the location of the weeping bed system proposed to serve the Village of Lucknow. The proposed location is south of the Village in farm land in West Wawanosh. Chester Finnigan, on whose farm the system is proposed to be established, was also in attendance, and Council discussed with him its understanding of the project. As Mr. Finnigan left, the Reeve arrived to take over his place as Head -of -Council. Motion by councillors Hickey and Brind- ley, .That West Wawanosh Township hereby authorizes the building inspector to issue building permits to J. Shetler" .(barn addi- tion); and M. Bakker (silo). Six tenders received for the pit run gravel contract for 1984 were opened and consider- ed. Motion by Councillors Hickey and Raynard, That West Wawanosh Township hereby accepts the tender of Howatt Bros.. Ltd, R. R. # 1, Belgrave, to load and haul approximately 30,000 cubic yards of pit: rjn gravel in 1984 for 79.5c per cubic yard. ($23,850.00). Road accounts in the amount of $23,322.08 were approved for payment on motion of Councillors Todd and Brindley. Two applicati:ms for loans for tile drainage, in the amount of $.10,000.00 and $3,300.00, respectively, were given approval by council on • a motion by Councillors Raynard and Brindley. By-law —7-84, Township of West Wawa - nosh, was given third reading and finally passed on a motion by Councillors Todd and Hickey. This by-law amends By -Law #6-84 by reducing the millrate for county purposes from 32.05 to 31.40. A letter from the Huron County Atlas Committee Chairman in 'regard to',nomina tions to recognize, in the Atlas, Huron County natives who have gained provincial, national, or international recognitipn, was discussed at length. The lettersuggested no more than three names be submitted frond a municipality, and those suggested to be submitted by West'•Wawanosh were Harry J. Boyle; Dr, Victor Johnston; and Murray Gaunt.. An independent cortunittee will select 12 names to be included in the Atlas. Motion. by Councillors Hickey, and. Rayn- ard, That West Wawanosh Township hereby nominates Isobel Kathleen Miller of St. Helens to be considered by the Provjince to receive a I)icentennial Medal. Grants were authorized to the following, and will be included in the list of accounts for June - Blyth District and Community Centre; Goderich and District Association for the Mentally Retarded; Wingham and District Association for the Mentally Retarded; Clinton Public Hospital; Huron County Historical Society; Salvation Army; St. John Ambulance and "Friend of 4-H" fund. Council was informed that the Province is no longer providing funds to municipalities to loan under the Ontario Home Renewal Program, and since West Wawanosh Town- ship has no more funds on hand; new loans are no longer available to West Wawanosh owners. The loan amounts currently being repaid will be turned back to the Province periodically (,4 times per year). General Accounts in the amount of $109,892.87 were ordered paid on motion by Councillors Brindley and Hickey. Tony Falconer, Michael Bradley, Kimber- ley Laidlaw and Karen Pickard were the students from this area who accompanied the Lucknow grade 8 class to Ottawa. Mrs. Bill Porteous was. a Thursday caller on Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Elliott, Jeffery, Leslie and Matthew of Brussels visited. Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott. Gertrude Tiffin of Wingham visited Saturday with Mr. and. Mrs. Fred Tiffin and Mn and Mrs. Vic Emerson.
