day's agenda included a tour of three farms
in the townshiop where Ray and his
brothers, Lawrence and Francis are
employing reduced tillage practices and
water management structures to control
soil erosion.

township council to have the entire town-

A farm crisissummit meeting intended
to bringg out a coalition of farm groups to
confront the problems facing farmers today
did not result .inan alignment of the groups
because of their differences and the poor
turnout at the . meeting. Approximately 50
people ..attended the meeting held at the,
height of the haying season to hear repres-
entatives of various farm organizations and
lobby groups speak. .

a model airplane at the first. annual

West Wawanosh Township Council
requested a meeting with- Lucknow Village
Council to discuss the proposed sewage
treatment facility to. be ,located in the
township, when the::: Luoknow, Sewage
Works project is constructed. Lucknow
council replied it() the letter saying a
meeting was: premature. "
Lucknow council said it would call a
meeting with the township council and
ratepayers who signed petitions objecting
to the locationof the facility, once the
technical aspects of the project were
resolved.. and the West Wawanosh site
approved

Commission, approved the application by
Kincardine ' Cable TV Ltd. for licences to
provide cable TV service to the village of
Lucknow.
A Lucknow area girl,, Chris Gibson , of
Ashfield Township, had the opportunity to
experience the beauty andromance of . the
tall ships, when she participated in' an at
sea sail training program on board one ,of
the historic ships. visiting Lake Ontario for
Rendezvous '84.. -
Chris was chosen one of 100 young
people to sail on the ships as a winner of
the Shoot to Score Lottery Tali Ships
Second Choice Chance Draw.
Wayne Joseph- Courtney of , Calgary,
Alberta was reported .missing and presuin-
ed drowned after his kayack flipped over in
the Kicking Horse River, 10 kilometres
east of Golden, B.C. His body was later
recovered by a logger in October: Wayne is
the second son of Joe and Teresa Courtney
of Ashfield Township.
Dr. David Massel'joined the staff of the
Lucknow Medical Centre. A graduate of
the University of Western Ontario medical
school in 1983, he:completed his medical
internship through the university -at the
three London hospitals, Victoria, St.
Joseph's and University.

ham and District Hospital hoped, to raise
almost $80,000for the new ,building
program through a special lottery, Plans:
are under way to sell 5,000 tickets at $20
with monthly prizes of 51,000 and a grand
prize of a $10,000 car.

holding two public meetings ; to describe
the proposed sewage works project. One.
public meeting would address the issue of
locating the treatment facility and the tile
bed system in West Wawanosh Township
and would' answer questions from West
Wawanosh Township council and.. ratepay-
ers who signed petitionsobjecting to . the
site.. A 'second public meeting would
address concerns of Lucknow ratepayers . .
over the cost of the project and how it will
affect the Lucknow' mill' rate.
Lucknow Horticultural Society and the
Village of Lucknow erected a bronze plaque
at Waterworks. Conservation Area to recog-
nize the first water works in. the village to
serve as fire protection at a Bicentennial
Garden: Party planned by the Horticultural
Society. The plaque. was. unveiled by
former fire chief George Whitby who was
subsequently named Lucknow's recipient
of the Bicentennial medal for his vohinteer"
service to the community, as Lucknow Fire
Chief : for 30 years.
Kendra Purdon of the Whitechurch 4-H
club 'received the Bruce County Ontario
Women's Institute Scholarship presented
by Elsie Houston, of Lucknow, a member
of. the scholarship committee.

Angela Kroschel of Australiawas one of
37 young people touring Canada and the
United States in a rural youth exchange.
She was hosted by Bernadean and Leonard
Ritchie of Lucknow, whose daughter, Aud-
rey took the tour to Australia last summer
on the rural youth exchange.
Father Edwin C. Garvey C.S..B., M.A.,
Ph. D., of Huston, Texas celebrated his
50th year in the priesthood at a mass of
thanksgiving held at St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church, Kingsbridge. A reception
for family and friends followed at the
Garvey Homestead, Ashfield Township'.
Finlay MacDonald of Ashfield Township
walked 100 miles in four days to raise
money for the Ashfield Presbyterian
Church congregation's allocation 'to the
Knox College Restoration Fund,
Anne Dobie of Scotland participated in
the Junior Farmer exchange to Canada
beinghosted in this area by Sharon Alton
of Ashfield Township. Angela Shaw of
England also visited Canada on the Junior
Farmer. exchange. She was hosted in
Lucknow • by Jim and Joanne Pentland.
Jacob Madsen of Denmark and Franz
Friedl of Austria were amongforty one•
delegates from 20 countries who visited
Canada on the Lions International Youth
Exchange. , Jacob stayed with Lion Neil
McGavin and his wife, Marie of Walton
and Franz was hosted by Lion Allan Gibson
and his wife, Nancy and Lion Tom Helm
and his wife, Joan of Ashfield Township.

Coaches Corner. Ron has continued to
coach baseball despite being left a semi -
paraplegic in a car accident in 1982.
Through : his determination, the boys
brought home the Western Ontario Grand
Championship title.
Public Health nurses in : Bruce County
failed to reach a contract settlement: with
the county and applied to the Ministry of
Labour for mediation in their contract
negotiations.
Wingham and District Hospital planned
to spend $125,000 to develop a new parking
lot to relieve a long standing shortage of
parking space at the. hospital.. Permission
to construct a new parking lot was -cleared
when a minor variance was granted by the.
town of Wingham planning advisory
Committee.
Ernie Webb, owner of Lucky Wood
Lanes in Lucknow, closed the Lucknow
bowling lanes saying the building was up
for lease or sale.
Prominent Lucknow physician Jack
Collins McKim died at Wingham and
District Hospital in his Slst year following
a lengthy illness. A dedicated physician,
his medical practice and the welfare of his
patients were always at the forefront of his
life:
A Coroner in Huron and Bruce Counties
for many• years, he was also a CPR
instructor, a clinical lecturer of the Depart-
ment of Family Practice, University of
Western. Ontario and responsiblefor bring-
ing many students to the Lucknow Medical
Centre for training.
He played in the Lucknow Concert Band
and was a member of the. Masonic Lodge,
Order of the Eastern Star, the Camp Kee-
waydin Campsite Committee, the Lucknow
Lions Club and the Lucknow Recreation
Committee.

Lindell Cross, 17, of Kinloss Township,
was named Miss Lucknow Fall Fair and
subsequently runnerup in the Miss Mid-
western Ontario Pageant at the Lucknow
Fall Fair. ' Miss Kincardine Fall, Fair
Beatrice Bosiger was named Miss Mid-
western Ontario. She was crowned by last
year's queen, Diane McLean of Wingham.

Hendriks of Ashfield Township were
runnersup in the Miss Lucknow Fall Fair
pageant. •
Several area residents took the pilgrim-
age to Huronia to see Pope John Paul II
when he visited the Martyrs' Shrine during
his papal tour of Canada.
A. meeting of •. the ' four municipalities
which share the operation of the Lucknow
Medical Centre • discussed a new cost
sharing agreement. Lucknow proposed
each of the municipalities shade the capital

and maintenance costs of the centre•on an
equal basis. Ashfield and Kinloss agreed to
the proposal but West Wawanosh voted
against it: The agreement has been drawn
up and . sent out to each of the
municipality's councils for their endorse-
ment.
Lucknow Lions Club donated $10,000
towards the new emergency and: outpatient
departments at Wingham and District
Hospital in memory of Dr. J. C. McKim of
Lucknow. The money will be used to
purchase and install the overhead adjust-
able lights in the trauma unit of the new
ambulatory care wing.
Huron Bruce Provincial Conservatives
nominated CKNX broadcaster Bill Thomp-
son as their candidate in the next provincial
election. Thompson was chosen over Bruce
County reeve Maurice Donnelly who
contestedthe nomination. Thompson sub-
sequently; withdrew when Premier William
Davis announced his retirement, postpon-
ing the election until after a. leadership
contest in the Conservative party. .

ed MPP Murray Elston as their candidate
when the election is called.
Huron Bruce New Democrats acclaimed
Norma Peterson their provincial candidate.
She was also the federal election candidate
for the NDP, losing to Grey Bruce PC Dr.
Gary Gurbin.
Mary Dawson was appointed the first
female warden of Kingston • Penitentiary.
The former Mary Fisher, of Whitechurch,
she is the daughter of Rena Fisher. of
Wingham.
(Jessie Chester of Lucknow who has been
associated with the Bank of Montreal in
Lucknow for the past 28 years retired.
October 5, Bank management and staff
held a retirement dinner and reception in
her honour , at the Lucknow Legion.
Bruce County Public Health nurses went
on strike after walking off the job October 3
and being subsequently locked out by their
employer:
Lucknow Village Councillors voiced their
frustration with the Ministryof the Envir-
onment at their October meeting, as
Lucknow still . has not received .ministry
approval for itsproposed site for the
sewage Works treatment facility and tile
bed system.
Commission from the investment of trust
funds will be paid to the Corporation of the
