The by-law sets out the period docu- ments and records are to be retained before they can be discarded. Clerk -treas- urer Bertha Whitcroft said it will, take almost a- week to sort through the documents in storage because some papers' have been kept more than 20 years. Request Funding For Study Council passed a motion authorizing' Bruce County Planning Department to make application to the Ministry of Muni- cipal Affairs and Housing's community study grant program for funding of a • special policy area in the village's second- • ary plan. Meet With Ministry Official'• Codiincil is to meet with an official of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to prepare a municipal housing statement to determine whether there is a need for a rent supplement program in the village. Discuss hiring by -14w enforcement officer Lucknow Village Council discussed hiring a by-law enforcement officer for the village who would also be the village dog catcher at their December meeting. Councillor Ab Murray suggested the village hire a by-law enforcement officer who would also be the village's dog catcher to avoid a duplication of services. For the past year .Lucknow has participated in the Bruce County program whereby the county enforcement officer acts for the village and the Nallage has also hired a dog, catcher. , Lucknow pays an average of $250 a month to participate in the county program and hires a dog catcher as well who is paid $35 per trip to the village. Some municipal- ities participating in the county program hire the by-law enforcement officer to be their dog catcher as well.. • Consequently Lucknow is paying a share of the cost to provide a dog catcher to some municipalities in the county while hiring • their own dog, catcher. A 10 per cent administration fee is added on to the average monthly payment assessed to Lucknuw for inclusion in the counts/ program. • Councillor Herb Clark suggested con- tacting Leo Murray to see if he would be interested in the job as he has justresigned • as county by-law officer. When Murray' attended a council meeting to discuss the property standards by-law, council is preparing for Lucknow, he °suggested. he might be interested in working as by-law enforcement officer for several municipalit- ies in the area and he had been approached about such a position by at least two neighbouring municipalities. ° Councillor Ab Murray .commented that the county by-law enforcement officer is making approximately $18,000. When Leo Murray started in the position •seven or eight years ago, said councillor Murray, he was making about $10,000 a year, and "look where it's got to.. That's a pretty • expensive dog catcher". Murray said ne wonders if the county program is too costly for Lucknow. "It's like hydro, cable TV and everything else. By next year we'll be dollared to death. The county and the province are awfully good at spending our money," Murray added., 'Percentage increases are the most unfair procedure possible," said councillor Clark. "And unrealistic," observed Murray. "We (the village of Lucknow) discontin- ued percentage increases," said Clark. "We did but the, county didn't," remarked Murray. •Clark added that if you are going to give increases it should be the same number of dollars to everybody. • ••••••••••••••••••••••• 000 vs' 000000 TRUST US WITH YOUR CHRISTM MORNING MEMORIES May every Chris..tnlas,A wosh come true: "f7 4 •••••••••••••••••••••• 000 *erne. o • Umbach Ph y LiIcKNOW amok 528.3 • re' INcis of i()y • A' 4:;•444.„ ---'4••••.••• • .17;',4 o • GuidEd by A STAR, ThE WISE .MEN CAME TO BETilifilEM TO woRsl-np ANd REjOiCE TOdAY, MANkINd TURNS AgAiN TO TI -IE MANgER, CO f iNd PEACE ANd blEssiNqs. ?"- • • • • • . • • •, ' ' • '•••;•i'tek, .
