This community was shocked to hear • that Bill Rintoul had passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Monday nuirp- ing, around 7 a.m. Bill had been a patient, at St. Joseph's Hospital, London since last Wednesday. The community extends sym- pathy to Mrs. Rintoul and family. Simon de Boer was a caller on Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson, Wednesday. Whitechurch residents extend their sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Clair Daw in the passing last week of his father, Fred Daw. Fifty-five citizens from Huron and Perth Counties were honoured on Sunday • at the Seaforth community Centre for their services to their community. Card Party • A shoot party was held last Monday. • High man was Ross Errington and high lady was Lois Chamney. Second place went to Russel Phillips for men and Edna Young for ladies. Russell also won the, "Most Shoots" prize. Fred Ward won a prize for • the lucky cup. Card parties are postponed • until the New Year. • St. Helens institute • The Christmas meeting of St. •Helens Branch of the W.I. was held in the hall on • Thursday, December 6. Before the meeting started, a delicious dessert was served by • the hostesses to 14 members and two guests. • During the business, thank you notes • were read from Ronald McDonald House, Town and Country Homemakers • and • William McQuillin. The Area Convention, held in St. Mary's • on November 1 and 2 was reported on by delegates Celia Aitchison • and Svbil Chandler. A questionnaire from F.W.I.O. Committee for Women's Institutes of the Future, was discussed and filled out. It was decided to send Christmas rem- embrances to shut-ins, Thelma ,Green, Alex Purvis and William McQuillin, • • Norma Maynard accompanied the group in the singing of Christmas carols. The members exchanged small gifts to close the meeting., weekend with her parents, Mir. and Mrs. Mrs, Angus Falconer held. a birthday party Saturday evening for her husband, Angus. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Alan Falconer and Tony, Tim and Amy; Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Falconer and Jacklin; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Montgomery, Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin, Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Maclntyres and for a Christmas party with Mr. and Mrs. Randy Smith, Saturday evening. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Des Roches on Sunday and on their way home, visited with his sister, Eileen Parker of Exeter. Hugh Sinnamon, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beecroft, Kevin Beecroft and Jody Dennis attended the MacKay -Wilson wedding on Saturday in the Presbyterian Church. On Thtirsday Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott attended a Funk Corn banquet at the Holiday Inn, London and also visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laidlaw and family. • Mr. and Mrs. "Jog Tiffin were at Goderich Saturday night to baby sit Mr. and Mrs. Bill Snowden's family while they attended 'the Bank of Commerce staff Bill Purdon. Whltechurch U. C. W . • The U.C.W. met on Wednesday, Decem- ber 5 at the home of Agnes Farrier. All enjoyed a dessert tea before the meeting. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Russel Chapman. The roll call was called by Mrs. Chapman to which • 13 answered with a Christmas verse. An ex- change of gifts was then held. Each brought a white gift for • the • Salvation Army. Mrs. Farrier led in prayer. Mrs. Sleight- holm read the story of Jesus' birth. Mrs. • Farrier lit a candle and read of Jesus birth. Mrs. Sleightholm lit a candle for all the suffering people of the world.. She lit another candle for the Hope of the World that came to Bethlehem. Mrs. Muriel Thompson lit a candle for the hungry, poor, and friendless. Mrs. Farrier led in prayer. Candles were lit for the tragedy of people's, for different races and colours and all children poor and oppressed. Mrs. Sleightholm read: for commitment for all people Mrs. Par.rier played the organ while the audience sang Silent Night and Away in a Manger.
