Florticultural society banquet
A large crowd sat down to a delicious
dinner served by the Trinity Ladies at the
annual meeting of the Lucknow and.
District Horticultural Society on. Friday
evening at . the Lucknow Legion Hall.
The address of welcome was given by
the president, Mary MacGillivray. The
blessing, was given by, the Rev. William
Henderson. Vi Arnold thanked "thecaterers
and Mary Lou Raynard replied. Elmer
Umbach and . Jack „Henderson sang two
lovely numbers.
Harry Lavis won the prize for the lucky
chair anti Ruby McDonald won the prize for
the closest birthday. '
The secretary's annual report was given
by Ruth Bogues and the treasurer's report
by Catherine Andrew. These reports
showed a very successful and active year
for the society.
Reeve George Joynt brought greetings
from the village and remarked how much
the society does to beautify the village.
The slate of officers was brought in by
Alene Bradley and installed by District
Director Clarence Lang of Chesley. He also
brought greetings to the Society.
Robin Logan presented the trophy for
the best red rose shown at the August
Flower Show to Barbara Emberlin and the
trophy for the highest number of points
was presented to Jean Whitby, Sears
vouchers were won by Jean Whitby, Ann
MacDougall, Mary Lavis and Ted Collyer.
Belle Mole presented Catherine Andrew
with a certificate of merit for being the
treasurer of the society for many year. Joan
Robinson presented Jean Whitby
withherpast presidents' pin.
Toe tapping music by the Horticultural,
band,' namely, Donalda Moffat, Jean
Conley, Ira .pickle and Harold Campbell
was much enjoyed.
Mary. MacGillivray introducedthe gest
speaker, Murray Gaunt, who_ spoke in his
usual pleasant manner. He also showed a
short film on bicentennial farms.
Catherine Andrew thanked Murray and
presented him with a gift, bringing a most
enjoyable evening to a close.

Pastor and Mrs. M. Christensen • spent a
kw days in London with relatives, visiting
with his mother who has come from Ottawa
to London, where she will spend Christ-
mas.
Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Ernest of our village in the death of his
father. The. funeral was held on Monday
morning,at the Walkertn Roman Catholic
Church. •
Mrs. Bert Nicholson visited recently with
relatives in Detroit..
" . Mr. and Mrs. Harold Slessor of Tiverton
visited on Thursday, with Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Nicholson . and on Sunday Mr. and
Mrs. N. E. Evans and Lisa of Ballinafad
visited at the same home.
Kinlough W.M.S.. .
The Kinlough Presbyterian .., W..M. S.
meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Don.
Bushell on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs.
Tom McDonald presided .and opened the
meeting with a poem and prayer. k.
Business followed, then' each member
answered the roll call with something we
are thankful 'for. A special offering was •
taken to support their adopted child,
Rosalee.
Mrs. Frank Maulden gave the devotions,
meditation and prayer and • concluded with..

a poem on the 23rd Psalm.
Mrs, William MacPherson was incharge
of the year's study and questionnaire. She
gave a reading in keeping with the study
and read a clipping of thanks written by a
Bishop. in Africa .and saying more mission-
aries are greatly needed. Mrs. Bruce
Bushell gave two readings and the meeting
closed with prayer.
Following are the new 1985 officers:
president, . Mrs. Don Bushell; first vice
plresident, Mrs. Alex Percy; secretary
treasurer, Mrs. •Don Reid; assistant,
Winnifred Percy; pianist, Mrs. Glen Hald-
enby; Glad Tiding secretary, :.Mrs. Don
McEwan; historian and friendship and ser-
vice secretary, Mrs.. John Barr; supply
secretary, Mrs. Bert Thompson; literature
and library secretary, Mrs. T. McDonald;
press reporter, Mrs. Frank Maulden.
Each member brought a Christmas gift
to be sent to the Scot Mission and articles
for a bale. Suitabl hymns were sung
throughout the: meeting.
Baptism services held Sunda
The sacrament of Infant Baptism was
observed at both Dungannon and Nile
Churches on Sunday, November 25.
Babies baptized at Nile were Tanya
Joyce Shepherd, daughter of Robert and
Karen Shepherd' and Stacie Ellen Winters,
daughter of Dana and Ellen -Winters.
The infants baptized at Dungannon were
Aaron 'Eldon James Ritchie, son of James
and Annette Ritchie and Rebecca Dawn
Snowden, daughter of Ronald and Barbara
Snowden.
'Grant and Sandra Curran hosted a family
gathering following the baptism service for
their, grandson, Aaron Ritchie. Amongthe
guests were the . baby's great great
grandmother, Helena Cook; two great
grandmothers, Eileen Curfan and Ella
Nurse graduates
Joy Houston, Harriston, former resident
of the Hplyrood area, graduated from the
Conestoga College of Applied Arts and
Technology (Guelph Campus), Saturday;
November 24, 1984, as a Nursing Assist-
ant.
Joy was one of 17, of the class of 56
members 'tp be named to the President's
Honour List. She is employed at Rockwood
Terrace, Grey County Home for the Aged
at Durham.
Attending were her husband, Kenneth,
daughters, Amy and Angela, Elsie Hous-
ton, Lucknow and other relatives from the
Kincardine area.
Bogie; also grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Eldon Ritchie. Little Aaron 'Ritchie is the
sixth generation of the Treleaven family to
be connected with the Dungannon church.
His great grandmother, Eileen Curran,
was a Treleaven.
Enjoy dessert lunch
The Dungannon U.C.W. held their
November meeting on Sunday evening,
November 18 beginning at 7 p.m. with a
smorgasbord dessert lunch.
Margaret Errington gave a reading
entitled, Agenda for the Week. The draw
for the quilt on which the U.C.W. had been
selling tickets was made by Cora Sher-
wood,
herwood, who had displayed the quilt and
looked after the tickets. 'Winner was.
Michelle Dawson, younger,daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Dawson, Dungannon. (Mr.
Dawson is the manager of Lucknow District
Co-op). •
A film, Cicero, the Queen's Drum Horse,
was shown by Mary. Here. This was a true
story of horse who began as a children's
pet in 'Ireland and went 'ori to become the
horse who .carried . the drums in 1 the
Queen's Guard.
A short business -meeting followed.
Donna Alton reported a yellow mum plant..
had been sent to Dorothy and Laverne
Pentland for their 50th wedding anniver-
sary.
