Meet the `Forces Sweethecrt"
• Susan and Jim. McNaughton visited for a
few days last week with. Susan'and Rudie
Henning in London. While these they saw
their newest great granddaughter,. Jennif-
er Lynn, daughter of Cindy "and Norman
Henning, who is only one week. old.
Susan and Jim, with • their daughter
Susan Henning were at the L.pndon
Gardens to see the Vera Lyn Concert,
where nearly 4,000 attended. Vera Lyn has.
been a great favourite in Britian for nearly
5b years. During the Second World . War,
she wasknown as the "Forces Sweet-
heart'', travelling throughout Britian and
Europe wherever the "Boys" were 'station-
ed to sing to them.
Jim McNaughton was with. the British
14th Army sometimes known as the
Forgotten Army, in Burma, when Vera Lyn.
toured there in 1944 and Jim got her
autograph, then, and 'still, has it. So last
weekend the family met, Vera and had a
nice chat with her.
She rememberedbeingat the Cox's
Bazciar Arakan where she sang to Jim's

group and was surprised to see her
signature on an Indian Steamship receipt
from 40 years ago. Susan got a nice picture
of Jim with Vera Lyn and pictures of their
new great granddaughter, Jennifer Lyn.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Shantz of 'Ripley
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Stanley on
Tuesday.
Rev. and Mrs. Douglas Whitelaw of
Wingham visited Thursday afternoon with
Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Stanley.
Lucknow 4-H leader Ken Mewhinney
was chosen to ; go to the Agribition in
Regina as a chaperone November 22 for
4-H .members fromdifferent counties.
Whilethere theywill be doiiig.some judg-
ing and looking . at some beef lots around
Regina, returning home November 26.
Family hol4s Christmas
Charles and Mayme Wilkins hosted the
Christmas for the Wilkins clan. Attending
were Howard and Grace Carlaw of Paisley,
Harry and Grace Wilkins of Chesley and
Herb and Marie Wilkins of Ashfield Town-
ship .on Sunday.
George and Betty Moncrief had their
daughter-in-law and grandson, Lesley and
Scott Moncrief . of Aylmer and Lesley's
parents, Jack and Marjorie Clift of Missis-
sauga with them for ,a couple of days.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack McKenzie were in
Shaker Heights., Ohio for a couple of days
1 to attend the .funeral of the late Mrs. Rae
MacDiarmid. Mr. MacDiarmid was . a
former resident of the Lochalsh area.
Barry, Betty and Sharlene •'Jones were.
visiting last week with Joanne Van Leirop,
Nona Fuller of Thorndale and Mr. and
Mrs. Harley Rath•. bf Harrietsville.'
Visiting with . Rhetta MacLennan on
Sunday were her brother and sister-in-law,

Harold and Peggy Jardine of . Harriston,
The .Ripley Horticultural Society held its
annual, Christmas pot luck party on Tues-
day. Those in attendance from the area
were Dorothy Finlayson and June Wylds.
Dorothy Finlayson had her son, Kenny
Finlayson of Toronto visit with her on the
weekend,.. I
Visiting on the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Robb were their daughter,
son-in-law,: Edwin. and Janice McCutcheon
and their family of Lions Head.
.Betty Moncrief had a few of the
'neighbours in Tuesday morning to meet
. Betty Jones, a newcomer to the commun-
ity.
Vancouver woman; visits fam lyr.
Mary Anne Lemm, Vancouver, is
spending her vacation with her mother,
Dora Alton, 'and brothers, Stuart and
'Steven.
Trinity. Yout Group. met at Brookside.
School •on Sundayii evening for a game of
volleyball with Some of the congregation.
They all had a good time. • •
Visitors with Cliff and Isabel Kilpatrick
recently were their friends, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Masecar of Branipton. On . Sunday,
Cliff and Isabel and Jack and Sadie Irwin of
• Goderich visited with their former neigh-
bours, +Zr. and Mrs. Bill Cook Jr. of
Chesley.
Mrs. Gary Thompson, Amy and Erin of
Red Deer, Alberta, are spending 10 days•
with her parents, Harvey' and Betty Ritchie
and family.
Trix and Jack Denney and family .'of
Paisley visited on Sunday. with,her sister,

also had a phone visit with their son, Jack

visited on Sunday with her cousin, Jean
-and Mike Clark and Nancy and Hugh of
Sarnia.

When he waddled his way down the
patch, Charlie Grant approached Chippy.
"Who in heaven's name was that barrel
o' lard?"
"Says his name is Flynn. Billy they calls
him -• or maybe it's Belly!"
"Does he have a horse big enough tae.
carry his weight?"
"I dinna ken Charlie - maybe he walked
here," Chippy said andhis old eyes
twinkled with mirth. "But I hope the dinna
fall down, or he'll' rock himsel' tae sleep
trying tae get up again!"
