To the' Editor; '
1 would like to suggest the building of an
agricultural park somewhere in south
eastern Bruce. County to serve this area.
This agricultural park would start with a
packing plant in partnership with the .
federal and provincial governments, a
leading packer, labour and farmers, This
plant would be built in a:Modular style so it
could be expandedand, all machinery and
equipment could, be updated quickly and.
When the packing plant, is operational,
other plants could be built to process the 'by
products cow hides, sheep skins, ..wool
feathers, etc. With many plants in the food
industry becoming outmoded .some of • ..
• these could locate in this agricultural gark
•new modern facilities on some sort of
lease arrangement. . •
This park could _eventually encompass a
....thousand acres with working farms of all
kinds laid out so that ,large nuinbers of
people could tour all -areas easily and safely
and see all foods grown and proceS.sed.
This agricultural park.. could have a
custom alcohol plant, a saw all; etc. This
could be the • permanent borne.' of the- •
International Plowing Match if they wanted
it. Farm machinery manufacturers could' •
display and demonstrate their. machinery:
Perhaps' a testing 'centrefor new equip-
ment; an invention day where farmers,
could bring their own inventions to interest
other farmers and manufacturers,
All these businesses could be run by a
private board of directors on a profit
.sharing basis. 1 believe Bruce . County
would be the best location because of the
amount of bee .Bruce.'and .Grey Counties
produce. This agricultural park could also
serve Huron. and Wellington Counties
becaus0 of the number of hogs they
produce.•
The advantages icrfarmers are numer-
ous. There would be less trucking fees. No
overnight holding, no sales commissioril.
Perhaps some of thislaved money could be
. used' to buy shares. Another -advantage is
.that a lot of young people could get jobs
'here instead. Of having to go to larger
.renters to find work, A benefit to the
consumer should be lower costs, Instead of
shipping raw produce to the city processing'
it, then shipping it back, it would be
processed here, then shipped urie way,. to.
the city. •
The advantage to the governments is job
creation at 'no cost. They wouldll put up
sonfe of the start up money but it would be,
paid back, at their cost, to be used for job.
creation 'elsewhere. Perhaps 10 to ,15 Der
cent of all employees conic' be people from •
. all parts of Canada for on the job training.
These trainees would need a place to stay
etc., more job creation.,

The advantage to The packer is that they
would have new modern facilities, an
ample siipply of produce and could be more
competitive.
Perhaps employees could. be sharehold-
ers or have a 'Vont sharing plan with
representatives. on the board of directors
' along with the packing plant, farmers, and
both levels of government.
If you think the idea of an agricultural
park in this area is a good one, clip out the
article and mail it to one or all of the names
