province is honoring 1,984 volunteers this
year, `'They are truly representative of
:hundreds of thousands of other volunteers
who . share our appreciation for their
valuable work".
The medals, made of Ontario nickel nickel and
gold, feature the Ontario Coat of Arms on
one. ,side and the Ontario Bicentennial
symbol on the other and are inscribed with
the words "For Service to the Commune
ity" . During her Bicentennial visit to
Ontario, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
was presented with a solid gold replica of -
the medal. In making the presentation,
Premier Davis noted. that "in -addressing
future challenges, Ontarians will continue
to rely*upon two valued traditions: volun-
teerism and community service".
Members of the selection' • committee
were: Mrs. Birch, chairman; .the Honorable
Pauline McGibbon, '•Municipal Affairs and
Housing Minister Claude Bennett, Patricia
MacKay; and Arthur Gelber, Chairman of
the Bicentennial Advisory Commission.
Students study New France

St. Joseph's, Kingsbridge has been: busy
in the month of October. Mrs. McDonagh
room is now : studying New ' France in
History. Students participated in the St.
John's Ambulance coursewhich covered.
artificial respiration; control of bleeding,
actions at an emergency and poisoning. On
October 30, the school's public; health
nurse came to talk about her career.
Miss Devlin and her grade 4, 5 and 6
students have been studying about iThe
community. The whole class tookpart in a
mural that was painted of the Kingsbridge
community. Currently . the Holy Land is
being studied.
Grades 2 and 3 and Mrs. Lalonde have
had a Teddy Bear Day. Everyone in the
class had to bring a Teddy Bear. ' Each
subject had Teddy Bear on it, such as,
Teddy Bear Spelling. They have had three
birthdays - Dennis Hogan, Erin Hickey and
Yvonne . Bowler. The class enjoys doing
centres in their language arts class. Their
favourite centres are the listening centre
where you listen to things and the creative
centre - where different things are created.
The class couldn't wait for Hallowe'en
because .they were very excited about the
costume contest and their • Hallowe'en
party.
Kindergarten and grade 1 have had a
Hallowe'en party. Mrs. Eedy has been to a
meeting in Dublin where an explanation.

up balloons for each student. in the school.
Attached to each balloon was the student's
name, and the school's address andphone
number so the finder . could 'contact the
school. The student's could •enter a' farm.
safety draw also.. The -Co-op donated a
beautiful book called "The Farm" :in
memory of their 40th anniversary. Grades
4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 released their balloons
together and then Kindergarten, .grades 1;
2 and 3 sent their balloons on their journey..
What a beautiful sight! •
The magazine campaign ended -October
19. Grade. 4, '5 and 6 raised the most
money.
Happy birthday to Mrs. Lalonde who
celebrated her birthday on October 25.
Both the girls and boys in grades 7 and 8
are 'practising volleyball at recess. Coach
for the girls, is Mrs. Lalonde and for thea
boys Miss. Devlin: '
On October 16 a cross country meet was
held at the Falls Reserve Conservation
Area in Benmiller. ' Theintermediate girls
came in fourth and. • received a . penant.
Great going girls! .
On October 31 the whole school particip-
ated in either the haunted house or games
the student council had planned. Everyone
had fun!
