The Huron -Bruce MPP said he wants
to work to provide the ability for people to
expand their .dreams so that the young
people of the riding can stay and work
here in a part of the country we all love so
clearly. We cannot continue to export this
valuable resource, he said.
Elston told the meeting . Premier
'William Davis only consults his cabinet
colleagues and his caucus ' when, he gets
desperate. The purchase of Suncor was.
made by four people. '1'he Ontario treas.-
urer at the time, Frank Miller, was
against the purchase, but Davis bought it
anyway, said Elston. Davis decided to
purchase a $10 million executive jet
without consulting his colleagues. And if
he really gets desperate hewill ask the
electorate what they think, observed
Elston.
The Minaki Lodge expansion is held up
by the Tory government as a way govern-
ment intervention creates ' jobs, said .
Elston.' Do you realize, he asked, the
people' on staff at. Minaki come frorti
every place imaginable; except Minaki?
The lodge is .managed by an American ,
consulting firm, he added.
"That's the job provision services of
our provincial government," remarked
Elston.
On the other hand he pointed out,
Liberal leader David Peterson consulted
with ,business and municipalities and
then the Liberal party in Ontario develop-
ed a program to provide jobs fdr young
people, designed to give youth that first
job opportunity to get that all important
first experience. Parts of that program
have beenpicked up by . the Ontario
treasurer Larry. Grossman to be used in
the program • he developed. •
Elston said he . is also committed to
providing job skills training to permit
people to take the jobs that will become
available in. the 80s.
Elston said he anticipates a . hard fight
in this election. He pointed out that when
the Huron Bruce riding became a subject,
of the revision study, . it became apparent
the riding would be destroyed. "Huron -
Bruce was to be dismembered and •we
were to lose our, rural voice," said Elston.
The Liberal riding association 'execu-
tive took a proposal and called on' the
Huron -Bruce Conservatives to assist
them in their objections. The ' Liberal
party in this riding received no reply from -
the riding PCs:
Elston said he resents this because as
members of the rural riding, it is impera-
tive that we speak out on the preservation
of the Huron -Bruce seat. Elston told his
fellow Liberals he intends, to make the
preservation of the rural voice in •the
Legislature. an important issue in the
election ,campaign.
"We must hold high the qualities of
reform and send back a Liberal represent
tative from Huron -Bruce," Elston said,
throwing out a challenge to his election
opponents.

Wingham .''United Church was . given by
Mrs. James Aitchison. A delegate from the
Institute will attend the area convention at
St. Marys. The Armistice service will be
held at St. Helens November 4. • .

New members are studying about CGIT
and the Purpose. The seniors.,are preparing
a skit for the Tri -County gaily and the
Intermediates. have begun "Celebration",
a study of CGIT, Week.
' A successful Regal Party washeld to
raise funds for Jamboree Camp. The CGIT
members served tea and cookies to their
guests.
Trinity Fitness Four
discuss fad diets
The second meeting of the Trinity Fit-
ness Four was held on September 22 at the
home of Hazel Hackett. The discussion
consisted of fad diets and what was good
and bad to make fot lunches. Members
made corn chowder, grilled cheese and
apple sandwiches and closed the meeting
by enjoying the meal. The club hosted two
guests at this meeting, Christine Simpson
and Bonnie Henderson.
