In spite of a nionth, of very dry weather
there was an abundant. supply of blooms of
high quality. Due to the hard work of many

Ripley vet club meeting •
On Friday evening Augudi,10 the Ripley
• Veterinaiy• Club held its fourth meeting in
the Ripley Huron Veterinary Clinic building,
just east .of Ripley. The Members viewed a
film on increasing swine Production. Dr.
Kenneth Rridge added to this and stressed.

Three weeks ago, today, on Wednesda,
• August 8th, Ab, Wylds remarked abo
truck load of had coal from Blyth th went
through Ripley and asked when Was•the last
time such a load Was seen here.
Since then Lynn Courtney brought here a
• • :piece of faded brown cardboard with names
and figures. on it.. Here are some of the
names - Sam Pelloek, Alex McAuley, Grant
McLennan, Dan McDonald, Wes Thompson;
Johit Reid, Bert Walden, Bert ason-,
• Jackson, John Wilds, John McMurphy, Bill.
• McKay, Sam Swan,.Eli Morgan, and about
20 more nainei. Of those named all are now
deceased but two namely Alex McAuley Of
Ripley and Grant MacLennan of Listowel ,
:., and at the time of the list April 12 to 21, 1946.

Recently John and Karen Wyld and son
- Andrew returned to their home on Malcolm •
• Street Along with John's parents, Harold
and Tena Wyld of Weston (Metro Toronto)
• they were on a two week vacation at Cape
• Cod, Massachusetts.. It is away out on the
east coast past Boston and it is just fiiled
with all kinds of tourists.

Bruce County Holstein Show is being held in

• our neighbour Kincardine's all fair. Where

• ' On Tuesday .of last week Dave , Murray
,treturned home to Ripley from Kincardine
and District Hospital. H was • admittek
there on Friday, June 29. Then he had a four
week stay less a couple of days in the Owen
Sound General and Marhie Hospital where
he underwent surgery. Back to Kincardine
hospital forconvalescence leading to his
• .• discharge on Tuesday, Aug. 21 for a tetal *of
54 days he. spent in hospital. Ripley folks are •
• glad to welcome Dave 'home with hiss /wife

• Fell on the. sidewalk • •
On Friday, August 17 p•s. Ross Martyn
• suffered, a broken hip when she fell on the
sidewalk near her Ripley home. Adeline WAS
• taken by anibulanee to hospital. Latest word

Robert Robertson of the tenth concession

and District. Hospital on Friday, August 17 •

Ripley — two miles and said that he was feel-
ing great, And he looked well too.

On:Tuesday of last week Charles Peterson'
Of Hamilton motored to Rile' to visit his
sister Fran and AWWylds. Following his
years in the Second World Wart he has been

• Last Wednesday noon Jan and Hetty
Vickers. anddaughter Wendy parked their
mobile home in front of the old Ripley -Post
Office building on Main *Street while they
were at the Nicholson Grocery Store. Kids
on their bicycles stopped and looked with
admiration at the grand large mobile. On
talking with them in the store it was learned
that they were visiting Hetty's aunt the,
former "Peggy" Martyn now Mrs. IVIacM-
cDonald Of Ripley and Vancouver, Peg
spends the, summers at Bernhardt - her
Martyn home in Ripley and the winters at
• her home in Vanc'ouver. Native of Prince
Albert, Saskatchewan; Jan -Vickers is the' •
world famed Canadian tenor singer • who
sings • on the stages across United States,
Canada, and Europe.. The late Dr. (Rev. )
and Mrs. Leonard Outerbridge were Hetty's
parents. Folks here will remember her
mother as Tena Martyn, principal of ,the
Ripley: Continuation School up to $une ,1924
when she resigned to get marriedand live•in
China for several years. •

,No fire twilight -
The fire whistle.sounded on Friday even-
ing about 9:30. The Ripley fire trucks went •
to the farm of , Wayne Lowry en the Upper
Lakeshore Road between the 8th and 10th to
• what was thought to be his barn on fire. For-
tunately it was not - just waste flax straw be4.
ing burned td get rid of it. So there was lots '
of excitement but no fire to fight onthat nice
evening.

Huron Township were Mr. and Mrs. George
Knox of Eniskillen near Peterborough, also
IV1r.. and Mrs. Doug Young of Port Albert.
Donnie Blue, school principal in. Toronto,
visited last week with his•sisters here - Ber-
tha and Bill Scott on the 4th concession west
and Betty and Jack Scott in Ripley. A grade
13 'graduate , of the Ripley District High
School, he visited on Monday afternoon last
week with Ab Wylds. •
Pig barn burned Monday
• About nine fifteen on Monday morning
this week the Ripley fire whistle sounded.
• The Ripley water track was needed by the
Lucknow firemen who *ere fighting a fife at
• the pig barn about ," one block east ..of
Holyrood. It belonged to Ernest Ackert•of
Holyrood.
