who lives on the Johnston homestead Lot 5
Concession 8 east in Huron Township two .
blocks east .of Ripley. The farm is owned by
a new Canadiannermann Weller who lives
on the Morgan. Johnston farm east of Johnny
Smith. Hermann had a very large field of
fall wheatstretching along the east side of
Sideroad 5 all the way north to the 10th Cori -
cession, Percy wrote this, note for this col-

By, this time Percy commandeered his

• volunteer firefighter.
After many anxious minutes .everything
was under control and the Wellers were on
their way to dinner.
Oh yes! it also saved the "Good Citizens"
of Ripley the wail of that ghostly siren "Nuff.

Jean MacDonald of the Pinecrest. Manor
Nursing Home staff in Lucknow visited.with
her sister Noreen MacDonald at their home
on Malcolm Street.

• Many interesting topics andlmojects have
been presented so far this year at the mon-
thly meetingsof the Huron Tract Spinners
and Weavers Guild. •
Highlights have been: • "
• A demonstration on corduroy weave by,
*Ruth Knight of. Goderich - a technique that
looks like a shag rug. Ruth also held a
•workshop on double weave which. involves
weaving two separate fabrics'.on one warp,
giving a bag effect like a pillow.
• Joanne Cicchini • of Goderich•
demonstrated weaving using old blue jeans
cut into strips for rugs, etc. •
In July, the Guild was forttmate to have as
• guest speakers, Bill and Carol Bannister of
South Landing Crafts; Queenston, Ontario.
• They displayed many beautiful prOjects and
• expldmed the effects created with a variety
• of fibres.
• Gerry Zurbrigg of • Goderich gave a
••workshop on Weaving a planter on a bicycle
krlin with several beautiful results.
A barbecue was held in August in honour
of President -Norma • Clayton, who is
• relocating toVoronto. Her leadership will be

The Guild's Summer Show is being held
.August 25 and 26 at the River Mill in Ben -
miller from 10-8 on Saturday and11-4 on •
Sunday. •,
'• Plans are also underway for the • Guild's
shitkiannual Show and •Sale with dates set
for November 3 and 4, also at the River Mill
• in Betuniller.
