had brought to the Caledon Hills.
The harvest had all been gathered in. It
was time now to pause and reflect upon the
blessings of ''the new land, to be truly
grateful and give praise to God. During the
first week of October,a• harvest thanksgiv-
ing service was held in the church. There,
surrounded by flowers, fruits, vegetables
and sheaves of grain, the Reverend Duncan
MacLeod addressed his exiled people. ,
"Consider the lilies of the field, how they
grow. They toil not neither do they spin. But
I say auto you that even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like one of these."
Macleod put on his very best perfor-
inance, sweeping his hand across the
display of produce which symbolized man's
reward for mingling his sweat with the soil.
"Aye, not even Solomon, King of Israel and
son of David, that wise man who lived in the
tenth century before the birth of our dear
Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The mighty
temple he built, as magnificent as it was,
could not compare to all the. wondrous con-
struction within any one single grain of
wheat that now lies here' before us."
The minister was pleased with the effect.
his sermon was having upon the congrega-
tion. The people of the community were
always amazed at the depth. of MacLeod's
theological knowledge and thefact that he
could quote verbatim from any part of the
Bible. from Toronto to Mono: 4ure and I am glad to

He was building up to a climax when the
church door was opened not too gently, and
a stranger stood before them, completely
destroying MacLeod's oratory. The
minister was visibly annoyed at the inter-
ruption of his service. "What is the meaning
of this rude intrusion into the house' of
God?" he,said angrily.
The stranger was embarrassed when all
heads were turned in his direction. Asan
afterthought, he snatched his hat from his
head and bowed. "I am looking for a man
called MacCrimmon," he , said with a
distinct Irish, accent. "Sure and I'll be after
begging your pardon, sir, but I was told my
message was urgent, so it was!"
All eyes turned towards MacCrimmon,
who rose to his. feet and addressed the in-
truder. "What is the message, sir? Ihae nae
secrets frae these people."
The messenger smiled. `"Tis no secret -
'tis'good news, sprit is. A ship by the name of
Atlantic Queen has docked in Torontb, and
your Captain Jamieson needs wagons to br-
ing all the immigrants here!"
Instantly, the church became filled with a
hubbub of excitement. MacCrimmon frown-,
ed' impatientlyand raised his hand to bring.
silence. "I thank ye, sir, frae all the trouble
ye went tae in bringing the message."

relatives. Almost unnoticed,. the bringer of

anybody rememberingto ask his name.
The Reverend Duncan MacLeod looked to
MacCrimrnon to bring a little order, out of
the chaos. The Minister Was the leader of
the church, but MacCrimmon was the
leader of the community.
' "I'll remind ye all that this is the house of
God!" MacCrimmon's voice rang out and
brought instant silence. "There is a time
and place frae everything and now is no the
time tae speak anything except the words of
the good 'Lord. I 'kill do nothing today." To-
day is the sabbath'and I frae one will keep
it!" He addressed himself to the minister.
"I apologize frae the interruption,
MacLeod. Would ye please . go on with the
service?" '
Though the minister continued; the con-
centration of the people was not on the ser
mon. Pictures of the loved ones they had not
seen for so Many years flashed across their
minds and the, carefully planned sermon of
MacLeod was completely lost on his
kinsmen.
Only MacCrimmon realized the full im-
port of MacLeod's words as he finished his
oration; a conclusion which had never been
intended to be part • of . that harvest
thanksgiving service. "Render with Caesar
the things which are Caesar's. And unto
God, the things which are God's."
