Congratulations to Leone and Bill Melton
of Wingham on the birth of their new
daughter, another granddaughter for Cora
Cranston,
Harvey and Betty Ritchie returned home
Tuesday from .Red Deer, Alberta where
they visited their family. While there, they
attended the baptism service Sunday morn-
ing for their granddaughter Erin Elizabeth,
datlghter of Gary and Dorma Thompson at
Gaetz United Church. They also had a visit
with Joe Thompson of Red Deer who sends
. his best wishes back to the Alton families.
Evelyn and p.A: Hackett" attended the
25th wedding anniversary dinner held in
Goderich on Saturday for Ken and Marie
Petrie of Kincardine.

Island. They also visited Debbie in North
Delta and went fishing on the Campbell
River.
Diane Raynard spent the weekend in Sud-
bury with ken and Sheila McAllister.
The brothers and sisters of .Jessie Alton
held a get-together on Sunday, at 'Paisley
before she leaves this week foroCyprus with
her daughter,. Joanne. Hughes, Bronwyn,
Sara and Bill. She will visit there for a time
before travelling on to Australia. ,

The 15th annual Burt family picnic and
reunion was held Saturday, July 21 at
Hanover Mernorial, Park with 52 guests and
family members attending from Cobourg,
Kincardine, St. Thomas; Elmwood, In-
nerkip, Kitchener, Vittoria, London, Scar-
borough, Mildmay, Islington, Mount Forest,
Toronto, ' Holyrood, Ticonderoga, N.Y.,
Teeswater, Lucknow, Shelbourne and Ot-
tawa. ,
The swimmers -enjoyed the pool then the
sports, committee of Mark Carignan and
Cheryl Hackett conducted games. .
A minute's silence was observed in honour
of the late James Burt after which Bob Burt
said grace before the pot luck supper. ,
A short business meeting was then .
chaired by President Sue Burt
A treasurer's report • was giiren.. by 'Lou
Carignan.
The 1985 executive was elected as follows:
beverage committee, Lois McKnight 'and
Rose Burt; sports committee, Cheryl
Hackett, Mark Carignan and Ken
Halcornbe; secretary, • Eileen Sceli ;
treasurer, Norma Carignan and president,
SueBurt. •
Gifts were presented to Helen McMillan,
founder of the reunion and Eva Burt.

Whenever Teddy saw his heart's desire
from a distance,. she was accompanied by
her father and obviously very closely
chaperoned. But the lad did not give up hope
- somewhere, sometime, he knew there
would be a brief encounter. •
About thtee weeks into the yoyage, with a
tranquil sea and the Atlantic Queen gliding
towards the•sunset with all canvas set, Ted=
dy saw the girl of his dreams -standing on the
wheeldeck with Captain Jamieson. Obvious-
ly her father considered her repitationtohe
well guarded under the watchful eyes of the
ship's master. As far as Teddy was concern-
ed this was an opportunity too good to be
true - it was now or never!
With the excuse 'of speaking to the cap.'
tain, Teddy climbed the steps to the deck
and addressed himself to Jamieson.
"All is well with the passengers sir, and
the old man we took aboard is none the
worse, so far."
Jamieson was highly amused. He was ful-
ly aware that the boy's report was merely
an excuse to gain introduction to the' girl,
but he pretended not to notice. • .
"Splendid, Murdoch. I am glad they are „ •
all settled."
His ,words fell on deaf ears. Teddy's eyes 4 .
were on the girl and what he saw almost •

Teddy impetuously took the girl'sslender
fingers and touched them to his lips. A. shy

knew'his mundane „life would never be quite

Institute holds morning madness
Mr. Thompson McPherson, and Mrs.
Melvin Rome Teeswater visited on
Thursday with Mrs. Ben Scott. On Sunday
Mrs. Francis Wraith Lucknow and Mr. and
Mrs. Scott Walsh visited at the same home.
Visitors during the week with Don and
Ann McCosh were Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Kearns, Scott and Lisa of Calgary Alberta,
Mrs. Laura Kearns Lucknow, Misses Ellen
and Janice Coyne Kincardine.
Bible Study was held at Betty 1VIcLeod's.
The meeting this week is at '°liven
MacAuley's.
Shirley MacDonald had. the Children's
Circle Square on Tuesday morning.
' Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burt visited with Mar-
jorie Thompson on Thursday.
Sunday visitors with Kay Collins and John.
Collinses at the farm were Gordon and
Ruthe Patterson, David and Bill and Jeff

The Morning Madness July Meeting of the
purple Grove W.I. was held at the Centre on
Wednesday morning, Irene Boyle conducted
a lively shake -Up. Anne 1VIcCosh and Jess
Meekins were hostess, and Deanna Scott
and Isabel Stanley served the lunch.
Relatives and friends attended the wed-
ding reception in the Ripley Complex on
Saturday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Brent
Armstrong. Best wishes to Brent and Linda.

The Dan MacDonald Clan Picnic was held
at the Lion's Park, Point Clarke. Stephanie
MacDonald had her friend Rachel Van
Rooyen with her.
At Caledon on Saturday, Andrew and
Stephanie MacDonald were riding with the
Huron -Bruce Pony Club, in the Prince
Philip Cup Games, Western Ontario Region.
They brought home a fourth prize ribbon.
Huron -Bruce first team had a third prize.
One member Tina Nesbitt was chosen to
represent Western Ontario in the Interna-
tional team for 1985.
