After singing O Canada, Frank welcomed everyone to the reunion, stating that this was the first time in 105 years that all seven branches were together again. He mention- ed some . relatives who were unable to come -due to poor health but he felt they would be thinking of them. He also mentioned he started working on the Alton Family Tree eight years' ago, but never realized that his project would lead to this reunion. Hedrew their attention to the beautiful Alton Coat of Arms above the stage which was made by Ernest and Marion Eaton of. Wingham. Frank then called , on Lois Walden to explain the genealogy charts and :displays; also Ross Errington,Janitor, for a few words and Russel Irvin' to explain the bus and car tours. . Approximately 120 left by buses and cars at 2:30 p.m. to view - the farms which ancestors settled in 1848. They also had an opportunity to visit Dungannon, Greenhill - and Lurgan Cemeteries. While at Lurgan Cemetery, .they also. visited Lurgan Church which . was built between- 1858 and 1862.+ They; also.' had 'an' opportunity . to visit focal farms. Those who did not go the tours were invited to watch ' slides in the auditorium presented by Marian Zinn.. .• As soon as they arrived back at the school,. the relatives were divided into each branch where several questions . were° discussed. This was followed by the beef barbecue, where approximately.350 enjoyed a delicious meal. At 8 p.m. the variety concert began with Russel Irvin as Master of Ceremonies, . to a full auditorium. Those ' who participated included Douglas Young on the violin, Bob and Joyce Courtney a duet,. Bob later played ' on. the saxophone; Diane Park,- Penany Hodges • and Donna Sue McClenaghan favoured with two numbers. Jack Scott and Jess Alton each gave a reading , and the Huron Bruce Swinger's square 'danced two C amity rettnian. . Altonon the violin, Bernadean Ritchie began the service With the call to worship. Three favourite hymns during the service were Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee, Faith of Our Fathers and 'O God Our. Helpp in Ages Past. Ken Alton of. Kelowna, B.C. read the responsive reading followed by S. Gordon. Alton of. Fenwick who gave. the Prayer of Thanksgiving. • . ' Two beautiful songs, Would` You Bless Our Homes and Families and Thank., You Lord For This Day, were sung by the choir under the leadership of Ruth Alton. During the service Gloria Nelson of Spokane, Washington read Psalm 19 .before. Frank Alton gave tribute. to the ancestors. He. mentioned that many of the achievements the ancestors ' accomplished had been forgotten.. He also mentioned . the trials and tribulations that, they encountered and that only through their faith and working with neighbours and their family, were they able to succeed. He then asked everyone to stand to pay a. silent tribute to theirncestors. Suzanne `Alton sang a solo•entitled, My Tribute. Alvin Robb of Kincardine • then led the congregation .in prayer. Two memorials were announced by Mrs. Ritchie. The flowersin front of the ' choir were presented by the family of. William. and - Mabel Irvin in memory of their parents and.. the flowers on both sides of the Memorial Tombstone were presented by Mr. and Mrs.. Dick Rye in memory of his father, Clarence. . Roy Alton of Sault Ste. Marie, lay minister for. 50 years, gave the message based on the scripture that was read. He emphasized the need for everyone to have a strongfaith and to live: by it. Marville Scott and Joanne Brown . of. Toronto visited with. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lane and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Lane and the. girls. Lenore Sutherland of Toronto and relativ es from Western Canada visited with Agnes Hodgins and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hodgins - and other relatives here. • Mihlgan ladies vis it relatives By Kae Webster Visiting for a few days with Elmer and, Edna Culbert were Elmer's two sisters, Peggy McIntosh -of -Northville, Michigan and Velma Ashton of Plymouth, Michigan. While they were here, they visited in Lucknow with : their niece andher husband, Peter and Gloria Neufeld and with their aunt, Jean Scott at Pinecrest, Manor. Those visiting Charles, Mayme, Elizabeth and •Kennie Wilkins were Charlie's sister, Jessie Alton of Lucknow and her daughter, and granddaughter, Dorothy and Jane Harris of Sydney, Australia. Mrs. Alton spent last winter in Australia and is now home for the summer. Mrs. Harris and her daughter are here for a vacation. Other visitors with the Wilkins were new found cousins of Mayme, John and Evelyn Obrein of . St. David, Arizona and Myt'tle Johnstone of Goderich. Mr, and Mrs. Obrein are the Johnstone connection. George Moncrief and his daughter, Jane 0 Ullrich of London are at present visiting with relative's in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and while there, they will attend a wedding on Saturday, July 14. `Laura Ullrich, daughter of Jane Ullrich of London is vacationing with her grandmoth- er, Betty Moncrief while her mother and grandather are vacationing in the western provinces. Visitors with Warren and June Wylds on Sunday were June's mother, Irene Stone, their son and granddaughter, Kenny and Melanie and Dave and Marg Cowan, all of Goderich. • Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb attended the. Alton reunion at Brookside on the weekend. Sympathy is extended to the family of the late John •McMurchy of Kincardine. Mr. McMurChy was ' in his 97th year. He is survived by three' daughters, Margaret Ferguson, Audrey, Mrs., Lester Ferguson and Norma, Mrs. Cecil Humphrey; several grandchildren and also great grandchildren.
