Betty Scott and Ian spent the Victoria Day
holiday weekend with her mother, Joanne
Lee of Rochester, New York.
Tim and Alfie Reurink and Karen. and
Donald Ritchie and Andy attended' the
baptism on May 13 for Dustin, son .of Mel
and ReinieArnold. The baptism was held at
the Bervie United Church and the family had
lunch with the Arnolds.

Trinity 4-H
Trinity 441 club members are getting out
their gardening"tools as they prepare for
their summer project.:The first meeting of
the Trinity Gardening Geniuses was held
May 14 at the home of Mary Lou Raynard.
The me"riibers. discussed how to plant a
garden, where to plant. a garden and ` the
various vegetables and their directions for
planting. Some of the' unique vegetables
mentioned were Chinese cabbage, Kohlrabi,
Swede Turnip and. Swiss Chard.
One of the requirements for, this club is to
plant 10 vegetables, one being a vegetable
you havenever planted before. Members are
to bring ideas for their gardens to the next

Mother s Day
The }iirtloss Kairahea Women's Institute
held -their May,meetnig in'the Kairshea Hall
with Mrs. Harold :flowald as hostess.
Mrs. Bob Gilehristb vice-president, wel-
comed everyone and gave a reading, What
Mothers Area The scripture was read by
Mrs. Allan MacDougall. /
The secretary, Mrs. Donald Maclntyre,
read a letter pertaining to this fall's 4-H
clubs. The up coming clubs are quilting,
.computers and finances. The June Sunshine
Sisters banquet was changed to take place
one night earlier than usual due to most
members busy schedule this time of year.
Mrs. Roy Finlayson gave an amusing
contest on all the words that start with the
prefix can.
Enthusiastic reports were given of the
district annual and the area convention, by
Mrs: Harold Howald and Mrs. Harvey
Houston. In a recent survey asking, What is
the Women's Institute?, one answer was a
group helping unwed mothers. The institute
obviously needs better publicity. •
Mrs. Harry Lavis reported that the
Kairshea ladies collected $318 for the Cancer
Society. Mrs. Allan MacDougall gave a brief
history on the origin of Mother's Day, and
read a delightful poem, A Mother Speaks.
The roll call, Show and Tell, proved the
members spent a busy winter making crafts
and travelling. Margaret showed particular
interest in Betty's Pottie. The members had
fun exchanging a variety of plants and bulbs
for spring planting.
Mrs. Roy Finlayson gave the courtesies.
Mrs: Farish Moffat and Mrs. Virden Mow-
bray served a delicious lunch.
Celebrates 96th, birthday
At her home in Ripley, built originally by
her . grandfather, Councillor Dan
MacDonald, Mrs. Christina Picot and 30
family members gatheredin celebration of
her 96th birthday. Sharing birthday honours
was • granddaughter Denise Grey, of
Mississauga, great-grandchildren Sarah.
Walker, of London, and Michael Webster
Jr., of Kincardine.
Sons and daughters, their wives and
husbands, grandchildren and great-
grandchildren from Lindsay, Mississauga;
Kitchener, London, Goderich, Point Clark,
Kincardine and Ripley, expressed their love
and affection for this remarkable lady.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren
` living in Edmonton, . Winnipeg and
Peteirborough, who were unable to attend,
sent Messages of love and congratulations. ,"
Birthday cakes and spring flowers
decoratedthe tables from whicha buffet
supper was served. Family members
provided the delicious meal.
Through the week, birthday cake and ice
cream was served to friends and neighbours
who called to express their congratulations
and best wishes. ..
Highlighting • this special occasion was a
visit by Murray Elston, M.P.P. Huron -
Bruce, who presented Mrs. Picot with a
plaque signed by the Premier of Ontario,
William Davis, and himself.
Additional honours came in the form of a
' Scroll from The Governor General of
Canada, Ed Schreyer; congratulatory
letters from The Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario, John Aird; David Peterson, M.P.P.
London Centre and Murray .Elston, M.P.P.
Huron -Bruce, These messages were humbly
and deeply appreciated by the recipient.
