But they say, • "Maybe, if we work hard," Barb and Ricks determination and • persistence have achieved significant results • this far and Crystal's potential is open ended.. Thexhave applied for, her to attend another two month. DAP program this summer and the outlook is promising that she will be accepted to the program again. The emotional and mental -responsibility as well as the financial burden of a handi- capped child is enormous and Barb and Rick have met the challenge -of keeping Crystal at • home with them, in a riaY-many would not be capable of. It's difficult, says Barb. Their seven year old daughter, Angela is especially bright, gifted and talented in her own right. After struggling so hard with Crystal and being so proud of her achieving the simplest skill, it is difficult remember that Angela is accom- plishing things only 'an especially gifted child can achieve at her age. "It's one extreme to the other," says Barb who worries they must give Angela the speciaLattention she deserves as well. 'But Angela has adjusted well to the special circumstances of her sister's life and she works with Crystal to teach her new things and shares in her accomplishments with great enthusiasm. "Crystars response is so rewarding to everyone who works with her," says her nursery school teacher. "She's just a gift." "She is such a cuddly loveable child with an air of mischievousness and it warms your heart to know her." Luck/tow 528-3320 4
