case last week when they held their annual
convention for all Ontario in' the Royal York
Hotel m Toronto. Both days of the event
were like spring so it was; a nice trip both
ways --, going early Wednesday moing
and returning on Thursday afternoon.
And the Ripley -delegates Keith alxWail
van der Hoek of the Sixth Con. east.:.,tack
and Linda Campbell of Amberley, and Bob
and Wendy Scott of Pine River heard news
on Wednesday which made it a perfect day.
About six thirty oil 'Thursday evening with
the bus. back to Ripley two couples - Keith.
and Gail, Jack and Linda. lost no time in
coming here to give their reports.
The exciting news was that the champion
prizequilt at the Ripley` Fall Fair last
September had been : judged the Grand
Champion quilt > in the Canada Packer's
Quilt Competition held at the convention.
Lynn and -Gayle Lowry of Amberley drove
Mrs. Evelyn Bridge of Kincardine to the-
Royal
theRoyal York Hotel so• that she could Personal-
ly receive the 'award for her quilt at the
Wednesday evening presentations. Linda
reported that Evelyn's quilt would now, be •
part of the Canada Parked collection of
quilts. • .
There were 15 quilts in the competition.
Keith then reported that Ripley had the
most points in the coloured slides- competi
-tion. Ripley had 32 .points followed by St.
Marys with 30 points. Ripley had five prizes
including firsts in two sections. Keith was
presented with the cheque for the Ripley
Agricultural Society.
, Heart fund canvass
On Feb.. 4 - three weeks .ago this coming
Saturday - six members of the Ripley Junior
Farmers went door to door here in the
village to canvass for the Canada Heart
Fund. They were Mary Lynn McLean, Mary
Stanley, Sandra Jarvis, Ken Brown, Mark
McConnell, andtSandy McEwan.
This past week Sandy McEwan drove
back° :to Ripley to report that a total of
$367.75 had . been collected and that the
Junior Farmers thanked the people in
Ripley.
In hospital
Three people from Ripley were in the
Owen Sound. General and Marine Hospital
last week. They are Mrs. Jean Edmiston,
Mrs. Pat Fludder and Orland McLeod.
Hamilton MacKinnon has returned to. Kin-
carddine and District Hospital last week.
In the Barbados
Bobby Robertson of the Tenth Concession
who has just reported the Happy Hearts
meetingfor this week's paper; ison a Vaca-
tion .to Barbados. Mrs. Adeline Martyn is
away on .vacation'..in Florida Eileen and
Doug MacDonald are reportedyspending the
winter. in Florida.Niels ` Frederiksen who
has been at Fort Walton Beach near Dentin,
Florida is now in Alabama:/

Taking advantage. of . the nice sunny
weather last Thursday. Ann and Jerry Huber

Avenue back in beside Lets Go Bowling and
the Knotty Pine is open for business. The
yellow sign in the window obscured by high
snow banks for the past two months is again
visible. The school administrator and in-
structor is Reuben Burnett - a former
teacher at Ripley. The school is registered
and approved by the Ontario Safety Leage.
The school offers a refresher ��rrdr u `
course for senior citizens, individual driving,
lessons for ail ages, a complete course con-
sisting of six hours driving and about 25
hours classroom - completion: of which en-
titles youto a certificate for insurance

Won first round
Finlay. MacLennan of reports
that the Ripley;Juvenile, ey team has
won the first round•in the playoffs,
In the thirdpanddecidintgaine prayed last
Friday evening in the Ripley Huron Com-
munity Complex they eliminated •Mildinay
by a score of 7 to 4. This coming, weekend
they expect a tough series with Drayton
Juveniles. The first game is at 8:30 p.m. this
Friday .Feb. 24 in Ripley. The second game
is back in Drayton on Sunday afternoon at 3
p.m. then back to Ripley next Wednesday at
8p.m..
In that third and final game against
Mildmay Paul Keelan scored four of the
seven goals, Mike Moore two and Doug War-
ing one goal. With five , minutes left in the
game a Mildmay player was injured and
was taken by ambulance to Kincardine
Hospital:
Two fire calls
The Ripley fire whistle sounded twice last
week. Around nine last Wednesday evening
He call was to Huronville in the Northwest
uron Township area. Then the next morn-
ing they were called back according to
reports.

Orland McLeod returned to his home in

and Marine Hospital where he had been a
patient for the past weeks.
Skating show
The skaters in the Ripley Huron skating
Club are busy learning the numbers for the
annual skating 'carnival to be held Mar. 4 at
the community arena. This year the theme
is "Leap Into 84". Parents are urged to see
that their children- attend all practices.

Gertrude (Mrs. Wm. J.) Mackay of Huron
