Bridal showers just aren't the same any
more. They've become themed events.
Today's bride, tends to be older than
brides of a decade ago. She's usually lived
on her own, or may have been married once
before, so she's already acquired many of
the household, goods she'll 'need to run a
home.
Traditionally, shower gifts have been
small but practical appliances, kitchen
equipment, linens or bathrooni needs. If the
bride, already has these things, the guests
are, faced with a problem. What to get the
bride as a shower gift?
This is where the themed shower comes
in. It, is based on the, couple's interests. If
they are travellers, or planning to travel in
the near future, throw a shower on the
travelling theme. Decorate, the room with
posters from various countries and serve
ethnic foods and drinks. Gifts might include
items needed for travel.
Almost every couple has a hectic lifestyle (
these days, especially if both work. There
are time -saving devices they can both ap-.
predate wok cooking utensils andaccom-
panying recipes, for example, or a slow
' cooker that has dinner ready and waiting for
them when they return home from work..,If
the couple could use something more expenfi- ,
sive, the shower guests could chip in to buy
the one gift. It's quite common for a group to
.get together to buy one large shower gift
rather than a numberof smaller ones.
Two types of showers which can be a lot of
fun without breaking the budget are wine
and recipe showers. At the former the host
provides a wine -rack and each guest brings
a different bottle of wine to fill it. Guests br-
ing their favorite recipe to the latter shower
and either the ingredients or the container
it's cooked in.
