ucknow UCW chooses valentine theme for Fehrua
Unit 1. •
Unit 1 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met in the
church fellowship room dn' Tuesday, Feb-'
ruary.7. Seventeen meinber4 ,answered the
roll call, a Bible verse concerning love.
Evelyn Cook led the worShip %Atka poem,
• A Friend Who Just Stands'BY! Annie ffilPat-
. -rick read the script*, The Love Chapter.
Elaine Irwin stressed the Biblical meaning of
love and each member did a' personal
evaluation on how loving A -person -we are.
Evelyn Cook spoke on Live for the Prior,
taken from the study book, Jesus Means
Life. She explained how Jesus associated
with the poor and the sinners to give them
life and hope. An interesting question period
followed and the with prayer.
Mrs. Ross Shiells' chaired the buSiness
session. Members are to save tin cans and
bottles for recycling. The remaining offices
on the executive were filled.
Mts. , Wells closed the meeting with a

offering was taken up and dedicated by
Donna Clark.
Mrs. Campbell read an article, Love ,is
More than words, which told hmv love and
caring had changed the lirves Of the poor,
blind and handicapped children who had
come to the, Bangor Mission in India.
Donna Clark took chapter two of the study
book, Jesus Means Life, and she gave a most
interesting 'resume of this chapter. All took
part in a discussion which followed. Donna
closed this part Of the meeting with prayer.
'Mrs. Walden presided for the busineis.
The minutes were read by the secretary,
Mrs. Eldon Bradley, and approved. Mrs.
Walden displayed the beautiful quilt block
which had been designed by Mrs. Vernon
Hunter and embroidered by Mrs. Harvey
Webster. This will be one block in the quilt
which is to be made by Bruce Presbyterial
U.C.W.. Following the committee reports
andi• the announcements, unit members
decided toread the book of St Matthew this
month. , • •
Mrs. Walden gave the doting thought, If
you could lend a needed hand.

U.C.W. (Unit 3 was held in the church

Jeins's work among the poor and sick' and
outcasts' of his time. Mrs. Henderson read
passages from Luke and Matthew pertaining
to Jesus' healing and teaching. Mrs.
Wightman asked, questions on' interpreta-
lions of this work and she pointed out it is
our Faith that Heals. She closed with prayer.
Mrs., Ivan Conley read a poem, When
Grandpa. Looks at Grandma, Mrs. Arnold
closed with a verse,Each Day is a New
Beginning.
Mrs. Gibson . conducted the business
period. The roll call was answered by a ,
scripture verse on, Love, by 10 members and
one guest, Mrs. William Hunter reported on

Women met for their monthly meeting on
Tuesday, February 7. Twenty-tvgo members

, Mrs. Cam Thompson chaired the meeting,
opening with a poem, 'My' Valentine Wish.
Mrs. Bryce Elliott read the scripture and
followed with the meditation and praYer.
Pleasing piano numbers in, keeping with
the valentine theme, were given, by Mrs.
William Graham.
Mrs. William Ferguson gave the tic

from the study ,.book, Jesus Means. Life,
'dealing with the second chapter, Life for the
Poor.
Mrs. Thompson closed the program with a
prayer. Mrs. Gordon Otyley was pianist for
the hymns. _
MrS. -Robert Campbell, leader of Unit 4,
presided for the business and, reports were
given.

rookside students compete in intramural hockey

On February 1 the Goalgetters defeated
the Killers by a score of S to 4. On February
8 the Killers defeatedthe Whompers' by a
score of S to .2.
The grade 8 class had hot dogs on Friday.
• Kindergarten registration was held on
Friday and the nurses were at school to test
hearing, vision etc. Mrs. Jolly met the new
students and their parents.
The pupils in room 6 are working on
Valentine learning centres.
Mrs. Tebbutt's class is doing a video
series on Timothy Pilgrim which is a part of
their literature program.
Marilee Derby from Douglas Point came
to speak on Wednesday and spoke to grade
5,6, and 8. She showed a film on different'
energy sources. Each student received a
crossword puzzle and a conservation of

Children who will particiapte in the Legion
public speaking contest will 'be chosen this
week at assembly.
Last weekend Mrs. Blake attended a
workshop in Toronto for librarians. It was
called The Idea Shop. She met some, authors
there, 'among them tieing Miry Howarth and
Marilyn Linton. The )atter wiote "Maple
Syrup" and, she requested letters from
pupils at Brookside to let her know if her
book Was accurate and 'to -tell if _it was
enjoyed.
