Couple drop in by helicopter for dinner with parents
When people say that they will drop, in to
see you, you really do not expect that they
will drop from the clear blue sky. Well,
believeit or not this actually happened last
week at the farm of Wes and 'Margaret
Smith about two miles south of Ripley.
Here is the news item as . written by 1ls.:.
Smith, - "On Tuesday, Feb. 7 Corporal
Mary Margaret Smith along with Pilot Ma-
jor Gary McPhail of Canadian Armed
Forces Base, Downsview,. Ont., had dinner
with her parents Wes and Margaret Snuth,
her sister Barb, her 'brother Rick and his
wife Joan 4nd sons Michael ..and Mark at
their home on the 15th road south of Ripley.
They flew home by C.F.B. helicopter lan-
ding on the front lawn". .
The helicopter landing was observed by
Donald Wyld from his home on the 6th Con-
cession west — about 3 miles away.

On the weekend Glenda Gardner and sons
Aaron and Brandon of Vanastra visited with
Carol and Don Fludder, Tammy and Jason,

Members answered. roll call and then took
turns reading from their manuals:
Members chose their designs and traced it
on the fabric. They then proceeded to make a
fabric sandwich in which they pinned it
together. Members basted from the centre
out to edge then around the outside of the
sample. Now the members are ready to start
quilting at the next meeting.

He was predeceased by his father, mother
and two brothers, Wesley and Donald.
The funeral was. conducted at the
MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home in
Lucknow on January 26, 1984 by' Rev.
Warren McDougall of Lucknow United
Church.
Pallbearer's were Harvey Houston, Cliff
Johnston, Cecil Congram, Lloyd Johnston,
Douglas Eadie, Grant • Eckenswiller.
Spring burial to follow in South Kinloss
Cemetery.

Home from " Kincardine Hospital are
Hamilton MacKinnon, Minnie Wyld, and
Fran Wylds. Harold Wyld of Weston (Metro
Toronto) was up on the • weekend with his
mother Minnie Wv1d at Huron Villa.
Real early this morning, Wed., Feb. 15 - 84
a Travelways bus left this area bound for
deep downtown Toronto carrying delegates
to the Royal York Hotel there. Today and
tomorrow the annual mid February conven-
tion of the Ontario, Agricultural Societies is
being held there to listen to speakers review
the past "year and plan for the coming one.,
Former Kincardine native Jack Kincaid is
the president of the Ontario Association.
In charge of making the arrangements for
the travel bus this year was Keith van der
Hoek president. of the Ripley Agricultural
Society. Making up a schedule of "pick up"
Points involves many calls. Keith says 'that
he had great help from Walkerton for that
area.

At five -thirty this Morning delegates from
Tiverton and Kincardine Societies met the
bus at the. Zehrs parking lot in Kincardine.
From there to Pine River then one block
east on the Eighth Concession where a stop
was made to pick up Doris and Cecil
Hollands.
On to Ripley post office were the Ripley
delegates were picked up at ten to six. Back
to Highway 9 and the next stop was in
Walkerton, for their delegates and also the
ones from Paisley and Mildmay. Next stop
was in Hanover for their delegates and the
ones from Neustadt. Next it was . Durham
then the last one was in Orangeville.
Late tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, the
buswill reverse the above route and bring
the folks back home from the big city.
Ripley delegates are Keith and Gail van
der Hoek of the Sixth Concession east, Jack
and Linda Campbell of Amberley, and Bob
and Wendy Scott of Pine River.
Home from Germany
' On Monday last week, Feb. 6, Rita ' Zipfel.
of Ripley and Marina Cameron of Pine
River flew into Toronto Airport from a
January vacation at Heidelberg, West Ger-
many.
Back from Florida
On Thursday last week, Feb. 9, Norm and
Mabel Barnard returned to their home on
Christina Street in Ripley. They spent the
month of January and the first of February
at the • big Beachcomer Oceanfront Inn at
Daytona Beach, Florida. It was nice' to see
their home lighted up again on Thursday
evening.
