Lucknow may get cable TV
Cable television may enter the homes of
residents in Lucknow and Ripley by the end
of 1984.
The two villages are among 12 area
communities which are the subject of
applications for service that will be heard
before the Canadian radio -television tele.
'communications commission (CRTC) Feb-
ruary 14 in Hull, Quebec.
Brian Walden of Kincardine Cable TV said
last week his firm had made aa application to
the CRTC to bring cable television to Ripley,
Tiverton, ,Teeswater and Lucknow at an
estimated cost of $3001000. John C. Ward of
Gowanstown, operator of the Mitchell-
Seaforth cable system and a joint applicatibn
from Saugeen Teledable Ltd. and Fergus-
, Elora Cable TV Ltd. are also interested in
the Luckniiw and Teeswater franchises.
Hensall, Milverton, Brussels, Clifford,
Drayton, Sauble Beach, Blyth and Mildmay
may also receive cable television in the near
future. Cable TV is reaching the small towns
in' Ontario after Canadian Satellite Com-
munications Inc. (Cancom) of Toronto was
given approval in July to carry four
American channels on its service.
"Until now there have been restrictions on
satellite programming. The signals weren't
available," explained Walden, who, added
that receiving progams via satellite is
cheaper than, through a microwave system.
If the Kincardine application is accepted,
residents in the four towns will receive four
American channel e and Ontario stations
from London (CFPL), Wingham (CKNX),
Kitchener (CKCO), and Toronto (Global) as
well as TVOntario and a French language
station. Pay TV would arrive at a, later date
(another application would have to be made)
if the Kincardine application is accepted.
Walden Said that the company would have
to make a separate application for just Ripley
