ity about 27 years ago, when her
father became ill and lived in
Wingham until over two years ago,
at which time she made ,her home.

Miss McCallum lived on the corner
of Victoria .and Francis Streets,
She . was very interested in the
welfare of the public library and

assistant librarian.
She is survived - by two sisters,

field 'and Mrs. Chris Nethery of
Belgrave, and one brother, • John
McCallum, also. of Belgrave.

' Mr. Seli 'lived at R.R. Wing-'
'ham, and died in Wingham HoSpi-
ikOn Thuraday 'of last 'week 'fol-
lowing a long illness. He 'was in
his 87th Year. ' • •
,I-te was born at Lucan,., son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. James Seli.
He was educated at the public
school there and also had his junior
matriculation in high school. He
was a barber in his youth.
He married Amelia Netterfield
on February 8, 1899 and this year
they celebrated theii: diamond wed-
ding anniversary; Mr. Sell, was a
stove mounter, but, has , lived re-
tired since 1947., , ,
Surviving besides his wife are
two sons, James and Fred of Wing-
ham, a 'daughter, Mrs. William Wil-
son of Detroit and . four grand:.
children and thirteen great-grand-
children. A daughter, Millie, pre-
deceased him.
Croissants, those flaky crescent
breakfast rolls, so commonly as-
`sociated with the French cuisine,'
aren't French after all. They were
invented by Hungarian .bakers.
SCHOOL CARETAKERS

'Was ,Wingham Tailor
Over 40 Years
After a month's illness, George
Wishart Carr passed away in Can-
nington, Ont., on Dec. 1st in his
92nd year. Up until this time he
had been in comparatively good
health and 'took a keen interest' in
reading: ,
Mr. Carr was born in Lower
Wingham 'on June 20th,' 1868, and
was the last surviving member of
• He was a member of Wingham
Masonic Lodge for over;50 years
and 'was in the tailoring business
here from 1895 until he retired' 'in
1937. ,
• After leaving Wingham in 1946
Mr. 'and MI's. Carr lived with 'a
daughter, Mrs. N. Wilson,' in. Ham-
ilton and latterly with another
daughter, Mrs. F. Moore, at Can-
nington. .•
The funbral Was held' on Thuis-
daya Dec. 3rd fram•Marlatt funeral
home, Hamilton, with interment
in Woodland Cemetery.
SurviVing are wife, ,three
daughters, Mary (Mrs.. Holman)
of Kingston; Celeste (Mrs., N. Wil-
son) of Hamilton; Winnifred (Mrs.
F. Moore), Cannington; three sons,
George, Jack and Ralph, all of To-
ronto: Six grandchildren also sur-
vive. 'Pallbearers were Murray and
Peter Moore,, Ronald Holman,
James Carr, Jack Wilson and W.
Mattice.

Passes in Toronto
There passed away suddenly at
his' home in Toronto . on 'Tuesday
of last week, James H. Jermyn, be-
loved husband of Fldra, pt 'Gan-
nett, formerly of Wingliana-
He was born in Brantford, and
was a member of DUfferin Masonic
Lodge, Toronto. He belonged to
the Princess Patricia Canadian
Light Infantry during the First
World War. On his 'return from
overseas in 1919 he joined the ac-
counting department of, National
Carbon Co. He was a menaber of
the Union Carbide Corporation, and
was with the company until his
death.
