Was. Mayor R. E. McKinney, who
voiced thanks for the acclam

him. He also expressed his ap-
preciation to the members Of the
1959 ,council for their co-operation.
"We haven't always agreed," skid
the mayor, "hut there has been no
real animosity."
'Mr.' McKinney said he was very
pleased with the work of the police
department, under the chairman-
assessor. Referring to the accom-
plishments of the public works
deparement, under the chairman-
ship of Councillor D. C. Nasmith,
the mayor said it is a highly de-
manding task and the committee
had done "a wonderful job". "We
are justly proud of our main street
and soon every, street in town will
haVe a hard surface."
The speaker also commended
Cordon Buchanan on his achiev-
rnents as head of the industrial
commission end Reeve Adair, chair-
man of the arena commission. The
paying
latter, it bes
way,
is now pretty well
, Looking briefly into the future,
the mayor forecast a scenic drive
and parkway right around the
river front from Victoria Street to
a point east of the McKenzie'
bridge. Another suggestion he
made, although 'admitting that it
might not be a reality for some
time, was the erection of a small
dam in Lower Wingham to create
an artificial lake on the preserit
prairie, as a beauty spot, conser-
vation project and fire protection',
Referring to county council
business, the mayor said he dis-
agreed with the 'decision to spend
a million dollars on an addition to
the county home at Clinton, It,
Was his opinion that the money
would have been much more wisely
spent in smaller nursing homes in
each of the towns,

The annual meeting of the Wing-

held in the Wingham, ToWn Hall
on •Wednesday, December 91;11 at

interested persons are invited to

Dealing briefly with matters
which have come before county
council, the reeve said that the
original estimate for the addition
to the home at Clinton was much
higher than the final figure. One
reason for the decision to build, he
said, was the tea that the old
section of the home has been con-
demned by the Department of
Welfare, as being unfit for further
use, He said that the proposal to
spend the money in five separate
Places is impractical because costs
would run rritieh too high.
On December ist, he said, Huron
will be completely free of debt,
with' the retirement of the last of
the debentures oil 'the county
building hi Goderich, Therefore
the issue of debent, tirea for the
