We then returned to the hotel for
a visit with Den Pelmet' and found
. we were rather tired after our 'alb,
night trip On the plane. Next day

The next day we were up early
as .a bus tour of the Universities

of them and tea at a -couple of
others. Back to a churoh for a
Sukiyaki party, You left your
shoes outside and at on eliablens
on the floor, - The 'Sukiyaki is
cooked right on the tables. ,You

After the party we went to an-
other meeting, then home to the
hotel Today we go for lunch with
Pastor Ah for a Korean meal at
his brother's restaurant, How I'll
'survive I don't knew.
It would be impossible to get
around Tokyo without a guide as;
the streets go every way' and a,
name means nothing, Only the
Main' Street has' sidewalks, It:
amazes me how they drive "here,}
I am expecting every Moment that
the ears will hit. A bad place for
nerves, There are 9,000,000 people'
in Tokyo , alone, half of Canada's
•population, It is a most amazing
city. The smell of these back
streets about got me at firSt
9110 becomes, used to it as time
goes on.
We have a nice hotel, as .hotels',
go in' the Orient. We are able to:
get Western food, which helps, out..
We leave' Toky6 o,n Monday for
another ,place to attend the Gen-
eral Assembly and visit a new:
church. It is all very interesting.,
Our .pictures. have been very fesk
so far as one couldn't stop the buS
or taxi to take any. This will lett

Routine Matters for
High SChool Board
The November meeting of the
Wingham District High School
board was, held at "the school last
Thursday' evening, a session which
was basically devoted to' routine
'business.
Insurance on the new addition
was discussed, with the board de.
ciding to 'insure the new section,
at the proper time, at the same
rate as the present structure.
It was reported that a doorway
between the old and, new sections
should be eliminated, on recom-
mendation of the local fire chief,
and that his recommendation be
handed on to the architect.
The decision was also- reached
to install another bell in the new
wing and to 'have screens placed
on 62 windows in .the new part of
the building.
Principal F. B, Madill reported
that enrolment fOr the month was
*07 students With an average at-
tendance of .94.03 per cent. He
also reported that the night school
currently in operation has a small
attendance this year, but will con-
tinue, HeleComMended that more
variety. be incorporated into the
Courses next year,

Oven-Browned Chicken
,6 -pounds onions, thinly sliced
150 chielten. legs (drumatick and
thigh cut apare)
3 cups flour
.3 tablespoons salt •
1 tablespoOn pepper
3 tablespoons paprika
3 pounds butter or margarine,
melted
Arrange half of the onion slices
on bottoms of shallow baking pans.
Add chicken pieces (do not pile, on
top of one another), Top with re-
maining onions, Combine flour,
salt, pepper, and paprika. Sift to-
gether over the dhicken and onions.
Pour on butter, Bake in moderate
oven (375 degrees F.) 1 hour or
until chicken is brown and tender.
Serve with: the onion and pan juice,
Serves 100, each 3 pieces.
Brownies
12 squares (12-ounces) unsweet-
ened chocolate
2 14 cups 'shortening
4 cups sifted flour
4 teaspoons, dciable-acting baking
powder • .
11/2 teaspoons salt
1 dozen eggs
614 cups sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla
3 cups chopped walnuts or 5
flaked coconut
Melt chocolate over hot water,
Add sherteriing and blend. Measure
sifted ,flour, add baking powder
-and ,salt ,and sift together. Beat
eggs. Add sugar and vanilla and
beat well. Add chocolate to egg
mixture; blend. Then add flour
and nuts, beating only until blend-
ed. Pour 'to a depth of inch in
well-greased 8-inch square pans.
Bake in moderate oven (350 de-
grees F,) for 25 to 30 minutes, or
until edges begin to shrink 'Slightly
from pans. Cut into 2-inch squares
when cooled. Makes 8 dozen,

delightful topping. So no need -to
concoct a frosting fell' this Apple-
sauce Chocolate Chip Loaf Cake.

1 teaspoon soda
1/1. teaspoon- salt
34 teaspoon cloves
3/4 teaspoon mace
1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 package semi-sweetened Chew-
late Chips -
With, vegetable shortening, use 1
cup applesauce, With butter' use
'Y.,. cup applesauce.' Do not use
margarine.
Sift together flohr, soda, salt. and
spices. •
Cream shortening; add ' sugar
gradually, , and cream 'until light
and fluffy. Add eggs; one at a
time,- beating well. Then add, flour
mixture alternately with applesauce
in small amounts, beating alter
each addition until smooth. ' Stir
in raisins, nuts,. and MI cup of the
chocolate chips. •
Pour batter into 9x5x3-inch loaf
pan, 'which has been lined on
bottom with paper. Sprinkle re-
maining 14 cup of chocolate Chips
over batter. Bake in slow oven
(325 degrees17.) about 1 hour and
15 minutes, or until done. 'Cool
cake, wrap in foil, and store over-
night. Cake cuts better -the next
day..
