week for a social evening in honor
of Elmer Purdon, Mr. Purdon
was with CKNX radio' for 15 years,
and retired last August to go into

Receives Injuries
In Stratford Game
- Ronald Jones, a student at Wing-
ham District High School and a
player for the Mustangs,-'was in-
jured on Tuesday of 'last week
when the team' played football at
Stratford, .
.He was admitted:to the Stratford
General Hospital, where it was
discovered that he had a fractured
pelvis.. He remained in hospital
there until Thursday, when he was
brought to Wingham. It is ex-
pected that he will be a hospital
patient herb for about three weeks,

mouries.' The Ladies' Auxiliary
the Canadian Legion catered and
served a delicious turkey dinner.
Guests were present from. Wing-
ham and the surrounding area.
Mr. Vogan proposed a toast to
the Queen and the national anthem
was sung. Garnet Farrier was in
charge of the music and had plac-
ed an electric organ in the hall.

the organ throughout the dinner by
Miss Dolly Vincent of Galt and she
later played an Organ solos, Julia
Cruikshank, Karen 'Beattie, Sandra
MacLennan, Judy ,Renwick, :Ruth
Hodg,ins and Jean Gurney sang as

gave 'two readings, 'which were well
received,

car carrying robbers who had bur-

Retires from CNR
After 43 Years
Ambrose Zettler, Canadian Na-
tional Railway stationmaster at
Port Elgin for the past six years,
has retired after 43 years,
Mr. Zettler served at 54 stations
in 'Western Ontario during his long
railway career; He was station-
master in Wingheari for a number
of years,
Born in Walkerton; he joined the
CNR in 1916 at Port Elgin, making
that depot his 'first and last post.
The Advance-Times has been in-
formed by the Winghain Industrial
Commission that a large English
industrial firm in the plastics
field has taken up the option on
eleven 'acres of land to the north
of the Canadian National Railway
tracks and to the east of James
and Charles Streets,
The property is owned by Mrs.
J. J. McCauley of Detroit (the for-
mer Olive Angus).
It is probable that construction
of the plant Will be started in the
spring of 1960. An estimated 75
persons will be employed by the
new firm and •this staff will be
