Dr, E. F. Shaunessy and Mrs. Shannessv barbecued the chicken for the 18. Couples present, In charge of the meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Zurbrigg, Mr. and Mrs. John, Wray, Mr, and Mrs. Bill Renwick and Mr, and Mrs. .X, W. Tiffin. During a short business meeting it was decided that the Couples' Club be responsible for choosing a little flower girl for each baptismal service and purchase the flowers to be presented to the mothers. The members will also have a work bee to. clean up the church yard before winter sets In. The evening concluded with bowling at the, Wingham Alleys. Mrs. George Guest had high for the ladies, with Mrs. Don McKay second. Robert Ronson wits high for the men with. George Stokes as runner-up. It has been decided to hold the meetings on Monday evenings, and the group will meet at the church on October 26th. • Receives Award At Grand Chapter Several members of the local chapter of the Order of the East- ern Star attended the Grand Chap- ter sessions held at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto from Tues- day to Saturday of last 'week. Wingham members were Mr. and Mrs. Parrish Moffatt, Mrs, Don Donaldson, Mrs, Ted Collyer, Mrs. William Arkell, Mrs. Jack Reavie, Dr. and Mrs. K, M. MacLennan. On Wednesday evening an Es-. tral Award was presented to Jim Shynkar, formerly .of Wingham, a student minister from the United Church here. Jim was one of 39 presented that evening. Hydro Employee Recelives Award Paul Coyle, forester journeyman, in the Wingham area, Ontario Hydro, was honoured this week in receiving a 313,00 Suggestion Plan Award from the Commission, The Suggestion Plan was Intro-, duced in 'Hydro in 1957. Awards of various amounts are paid to em- ployees who submit' valuable ideas. These ideas or suggestions, if approved by a board, are adopted and put in general use by Hydro throughout the proVinbe. The Suggestion Award paid to Mr. Coyle is the firist to be re- ceived in the Wingham area since the plan bpgun, and he is to be congratulated for this achievement. His suggestion was that coloured tape markings be attached on tree pruner handles to indicate allow- able safe distance from live wires at various voltages. This is similar to markings in use on live line tools. R. Vogan Attends Wiarton Meeting On Saturday Russ Davis was host to teachers of the Saugeen Zone. The morning session' was taken up with lesson presentation ideas and discussing the value of Industrial Arts (General, Shop) for all teen-age boys, Ross Vogan of Wingham attended the meeting. PAUL'S , The annual Harvest Thanksgiy ing services were held in St. Paul's Anglican Church on Sunday. Large congregationss_attended ,both the morning and evening services When the rector, Rev. C, F. John- son's sermon themes were based 'on the many blessings we enjoy in a peaceful and prosperous land. The choir Sang an appropriate anthem at the morning service and Walter Pieltford sang a solo, "The Hymn of Thanksgiving". Members of the Presbyterian and United Churches attended the, evening service. The senior choir Sang the, •anthem; "The Lord, 'Is Loving? and the junior choir sang "Fairest Lord Jesus". The music, at, both services -was under the Ali: ection of Mrs. Gordon Davidson, organist and choir leader. The church was beautifully de-' corated with fruit, flowers and` vegetables which had ,been arrang-' ed by the ,ladies of the church. ' Kinettes Hold First Meeting .of Season Mrs...Gerry Timm was hostess: to. the Kinette Club on' Monday eve ring when 23 members attended the first meeting of the fall sea- son. !Mrs. John Ciirrie, the now president for 1959-60, was in charge of the meeting 'and welcomed the members babk after the • summer holiday. The reports for 1958-59 were read' and proved most gratifying.' Roll call was answered with each member telling how she had spbnt the summer vacation, Plans were discussed for the forthcoming fall tea, to be held in the Legion Home the latter part of October. Committees were drawn up. for the year,. It was :decided that;the Wingham Kinette Club would pity telephone bills for the 'School 'foe Retarded Children and Mrs, Cy Robinson was appointed as a help- er to Mrs. Buser, teacher at the school. The winner of the raffle of thb evening was Mrs, Jack BateSen, Mrs, Jim Currie conducted a spell- ing contest, which was won by Mrs. Al Williams. The meeting adjourned and lunch was • served.
