The little white gates were op-
ened by Murray Grainger and Bar-
ry 04Crafka as Yvonne Sperling
sang "Open the Gates of the
Temple", accompanied at ,, the ot-'
gan by Corinne Rhame. As the'
pupils entered their new classes
they were welcomed by the teacki-
ers. Mrs. Gerald Galbraith led in
the 'singing' of the %African song,
"Kum Ba Yab". Mr,s: T, O'krafka
closed with the benediction.

achievements of the past 100 years
the executive of the society .and
the ' people of Howick generally
have determined that the 1959 fair,,,
which will be held Friday and Sat-
urday of this week, will be a .suit-
able celebration of the centennial.

GORRIE—The Wornan's Mission-
ary' Society of •the Gorrie United
Church held its Autumn Thankof-
fering on Sunday morning. Mrs,
Gerald Galbraith, president, was in
charge of the servibe. Mrs. G.
Brown read the Scripture and of-
fered, prayer,
Mrs. Isabel Pike of Ilderton, a
former deaconess, was the guest
speaker. Mrs. Pike told of the
origin of the W.M.S., of Mrs. Tho-
mas Crosby, the missionary, writ-
ing home to Hamilton asking help
to build a room. to their house for
the little Indian girls who came to
her. Now there are 292 active and
retired missionaries. As the fron-
tiers move north the W.M.S. hos-
pitals go also to help wherever the
need arises.
The C.G.I.T, girls and W.M.S.
ladies formed the choir ,and sang
an anthem.
