Rally Day
ST. HELENS-Rally Day was ob-
served in. the United Church on
'Sunday morning with Lorne
Woods, the superintendent of the
Sunday School, in charge.
The theme of the 'worship ser-
vice was "Round the World Thy
Children Sing" and Patsy 'Crans-
ton read the Scripture lesson. Nan-
cy Dorscht read the story "See
with Your Eyes" and Rev. B. F.
Green gave a short address in
keeping with the ,theme. The of-
fering was taken by Wayne and
Hughie Todd.

Mr, and Mrs. Albert Coultes and
Diane attended the graduation ex-
ercises of the General Hospital,
Guelph, on Wednesday last, held in
the Memorial Hall of OAC, when
Miss Marjorie Coultes was one of
28 girls who graduated. Others who
attended the ceremonies and lunch-
eon were Mrs. George Coultes, Mrs.
Alex Leaver, Miss Mildred McClen-
aghan, Elizabeth Pipe and Jack
Coultes. Miss Janet Gaunt, Miss
Pipe and Jack Coultes also attend-
ed the dance that followed in the
'Elizabeth Room of the Royal Hotel,
Guelph, Mrs. Coultes, Mrs. Gros-
korth, Mrs. Chapman and, Mrs.
Garnet Farrier attended the mother
and daughter tea on Thursday.

Mrs.' Leaver, the, former Martha
Ann Coultes, died on' Thursday of
Fast week at the Winghano, Hospi-
tal. She had been ill since April,
Born in East Wawanosh in 1870,
she was a daughter of the late AO',
bert.. Coultes- and •-Martha-Scottv
She attended No. school in East
Wawanoph. On June 20, 3,900, she
married James Leaver in a wed",
ding ceremony held at the home of
her parents, Mr, Leaver died in
January-, 1943.
She is survived by one brother,
George Coultes, of East Wawa-
nosh, Three brothers, Walter,
John anti Robert Coultes and a
sister, Elizabeth (Mrs. George
Powell) predeceased her,
Mrs. Leaver was a member of
St, Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

BELMORE-The ladies of the
Lakelet Institute were guests at the
regular meeting of the Belmore
W.I. held in the club rooms, Mrs.
David Bache, president, was in the
chair. The roll call was to name
an important - event of the past.
year.
The motto, "Are you a thermo-
stat or a thermometer?" was given
by Mrs, R. T. Appleby. Three of
the Lakelet Institute ladies Ten=
dared musical numbers ;and a hu-
morous reading, "Aunt Martha at
the. Movies" was given.
Donna Renwick, Nancy Elliott
and. Lois and Shirley Simmons of
the 4,41 Homemaking Club put on
a skit, 'based on farm home im-
provement, which was much en-
joyed. New, cement walks, flower
beds, evergreens, freshly painted
mailbox and painted fences make a
farm home much more attractive.
Mrs. T. E. Kennedy was guest
speaker, taking as her subject,
"Our 'New Canadians". She told
of her experiences as a minister's
wife, among Dutch, Rumanian,
Lavian and 'Hungarian 'immigrants, •
and felt that they, as a whole, are
ambitious and industrious and
should be welcomed as good neigh-
bors. She reminded the ladies
that a couple of generations back
their ancestors were new Canadians
too.

corder, played many of his own
selections. He also did a special
whistling number, accompanying
himself on the guitar. •
After a dainty lunch, served by
the hostess Mrs. Fred Double-

meeting closed with, the national
anthem.

Presbyterian Church was held in
'the Sunday School roam last Thurs-
day afternoon with Mrs. T. E, Ken-
nedy in the "chair. The meeting
opened with a hytnn and prayer by
Mrs. Kennedy, The Scripture
reading , was from 2 Cot 4:1-18.
Mrs. Ken Dickson read a letter
'from a missionary in Formosa.
Mrs. Ralph Dickson gave the Bible
study on "The Life of Ruth". A
hymn was sung,

of the topic, "The Chutch's Wit-
ness to a Changing Canada", using
flannelgraph pictures to illustrate
her talk.
