Lucknow Legion Hall. The eve-
ning was spent in dancing to the
music by Tiffin's orchestra.,

to the newlyweds and George
Hackett presented them with a gift
of money, Mrs. Esther Hackett,
assisted; by relatives of the bride,

The Women's; Institute met in
the eettncil chamber on Thursday
of last week with a good atten-
dance. Thirty-seven ladies from
Goderich Institute attended. Mrs.
E. Parish president, presided.
After the business part; the pro-
gram conducted by Mrs. Bower
and Mrs. P. cowans was given.
Mr. G. Hastie gave a reading, Mts.
C. Hopper, a motto and Mrs, D. S,
MacNattgliton recited a prayer in
poetry,

relatives of Miss Josie 'Willoughby
gathered at the Legion Hoirie last

Margaret Brophy
On Wednesday evening the man-
agement and staff of CKNX, along
With wives and husbands gathered
at the Legion. Hall in Walkerton
in honor of Miss Margaret Brophy,
bride-elect of this week, About 80
were in attendance,
bon Hildebrand read an enter-
tairring "gossip column" concerning
the activities of staff 'members,
Ross Hamilton gave a presenta-
tion address and W. T. Cruiek-
Shank made the presentation of a
beautiful card table sot and a gift
of money to Miss Brophy. The
recipient very graciously thanked
all those present,
Dancing was enjoyed and a buf-
fet Itineheon was served.
Margaret has 'been employed by
the station far over 20 years, She
first started her career with CKNX
radio in, office work, pater it was
felt that programs for' the home-
makers Would be an asset and
Margaret became the filed women's
tlitor Cii<NX and lies held
that position ever since. Her redid
programs have long been most
popular in this section of Western
Ontario.
With the ,advent of television at
CKNX Margaret become Women's
director and carried on with wo-
men's featured on both radio nod
TV with the help of an assistant,
She is also treasurer of the com-
pany,
Het loyal audience will be pleas-
ed to know that Margaret intends
to work on a part time basis and

DIES ENROUTE
TO DECATUR, ILL
Mrs. Annie Graham Christie
passed away on Thursday of a
heart attack in Memorial Hospital
at Logansport, Indiana, With her
``were her son-in-law and daughter,
Rev. and Mrs, A. C, Pentland;
with whom she was travelling to
Decatur, Illinois, where she had
planned to .spend a few months,
Born in Paisley, Scotland, she
came to Canada with her husband,
the late J. Henry Christie, and has
lived in Wingham for more than
50 years. '
A member of the Wingham Un-
ited Church, she was active in the
W.MS, for many years.
'Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. A, E. C. Pentland (Janet), De-
catur, Ill.; Mrs, W. B. McCool
(Jean), Wingham;, one son, J. M.
Christie,. Toronto, and two grand-
sons; Graeme and Brien. Christie,
Toronto,
Funeral services were held at the
Currie funeral home on Monday
with Rev. T.. Garnet Russet offic-
iating. Interment was made in'
Wingham cemetery, The Pallbear-
ers were F. R. Howson, H. P. Car-
miehael, R. E. McKinney, T. A.

There was an excellent entry at
the local greens on Monday night
for., men's doubled. Competition
was for the Hanna. Trophy.
The 32 rinks attending represent-
ed clubs in Goderich, Lucknow,
Teeswater, Clinton, Durham, Lon-
don, Seaforth, Harriston, Walker-
ton and Port Elgin.
`A. Blair and H, Duffy of Tees-
water and g, Spatting and P. Bis-
set of 'Goderich were tied for first
place with three wins phis 17 and
an aggregate of 41. The Teeswater
rink won the trophy, plus $25
merchandise for each when the
tie was broken by playing three
extra ends.
In third place was H. Hawkins
and B, Nodden of Clinton, three
wins plus 8; fourth R, Bennett and
H. Brown of Wirigham, three plus
4; fifth J. McNaughton and G.
Hall, Lucknow, two plus 13; sixth
C. Henry and N, Tucker of Dur-
ham, ,twoplus 13 and A. Scrim-
geour and J. McLeod of Goderich
also had two plus 13. Each of the
latter rinks had aggregates of 40:

Mr. and Mrs. Moses Brown, who
are now at their home here In
Wingham, enjoyed a trip to Israel
this summer.
They Left Toronto June 1st by
plane for New York and flew from
there to IStael, landing at Tel Aviv.
This was their first trip there and
they met Many cousins and other
relatives. Mrs, Brown also met a
friend whom she had not seen since
1911, when they were both in To-
ronto.
There was no rain in Israelklur-
ing June, July and August and
they found the Weather vary hot
and dry. They believed the tem-
perature to average about 95, The
Brown's Visited Jerusalem and eth-
er citiee and saw King bkvid's
Tomb.
The visitors were surprised to
find that the country is so advane-
ed and is every 'bit as modern, if
not More so, than Canada.

Then they flew to Athens, Greece,
and spent almost a week there, the
countryside and Mountains wire
beautiful.
Rome Was the next stop and rival
enjoyed:several days' visit them.
They took guided tours so that

unsurpassed. They stayed at Z r-
ich and were delighted with birth
GRANDSON DROWNED
AT SUMMER EMIR
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Burgman
were called to Kirkland Lake on
Saturday to attend the funeral of
their grandson,. Tommy, younger
son of Dr, and, Mrs. G, W. Burg-
man.
Tommy, who was two years old,
was drowned when he fell from
the dock into the water at the
family cottage on Lake'Sisikeinika
near Kirkland Ilake,
Besides his parents, he is surviv-
ed by one sister, Jane and one
brother, Richard.

the scenery and the friendliness of
the people.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown liked Paris
well enough but, didn't feel that
their visit there could be compared
with the most of the other places
they saw. Brussels met their ex-
pectations and from there they
flew to London.
Scotland wns a country they re-
ally enjoyed, -and they were sorry
they eouldn't stay longer. It is
one of the countries they would like
to revisit in the future.
They were fortunate In having
good weather throughout their
travois and did not eneounter rain
Until they were in Scotland, By
this time rain was a welcome sight.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown had hoped
to go to Ireland from Scotland but
were unable to get a flight.
An interesting incident occurr-
ed at the airport before leaving
Scotland for New York. Three
people were awaiting a night, and
the woman approached 'Mrs, Brown,
It was then she realized it Was Mr.
and Mrs. Art Field, formerly of
Wingham and Frank Field of Tees-
water. They had been. to Germany
and were about to leave for Mont-
real, on their return .home,
Mr. and Mrs. Brown got back to
Toronto the,. end of July. They
thoroughly enjoyed their Vacation
end had Met many friendly and in!..

vels.
On Monday evening the Turn
berry Park Pool was the setting
for an .enjoyable evening when
Doris Pickell and her swimming
class staged an "open night" to a

Wins Scholarship
Sail G. Mundell, son of Mr, and
Mrs, Gordon Mundell, Biuevale, has
been granted a scholarship for
entrance to University of Western
Ontario i,n September. The $200
scholarship has been awarded for
having obtained the highest stand-
ing in Grade XIII in the Wingham
District High 'School,

Miss Gail Colvin was Surprised
last Tuesday evening when she
was invited to the home of Mrs,
Freddie TeMplenme, to find about
30 friends had gathered for a kit-
ehen shower In her honor. Gail
was Married on Saturday to Mack
Cameron,
Misses Ruth Fry and Marykae
Newman were also hostesses, Gail
was seated in the decorated arch
to omen her many lovely gifts of
aluminum cookware. She express-
ed her'thanks mid Miss Newman
