This warning comes from Chief
of Police Gordon neyell, in the
hope that no traffic disasters will
spoil the fine summer season • in
this community.
"Every year," he says, a whole
crop of fatal accidents occur simp-
ly ;because drivers overestimate
their own strength and poweM of
endurance, They will leave for
their holiday destinations in the
evening after an exhausting day's
work, or 'else they insist on driv-
ing till their eyelids droop. The
split second of sleep that creeps in-
voluntarily over them is all too
often fatal."
"These tragedies could easily he
avoided if everyone takes -the
time to rest before starting on a
king trip. Even if they are rest-
ed, people should still make regu-
lar stops every two hours or so, to
stretch tbe muscles and 'regain
alertness over a, cup of coffee."
The police chief urges drivers to
start the day's trip early in the
morning. Accident risks are far
