let's decorate
Perhaps no room announces the
age of a house so much as the
bathroom. It is no wonder that
so many women cast a 'baleful eye
on this tattle-tale room.
But remodelling is a major jab—,
and basic mistakes can be Costly.
Collect pictures of bathrooms, you
admire and make notes of the
features adaptable to the size of
your room as well as your family
needs. This will establish your
major structural changes.
Consider the variety of available
materials: paint, wallpaper, wall
tile, flooring, plastic laminates. You
will undoubtedly want real tile—
that is, ceramic tile, for your walls.
You can choose either a 4" or 6"
wall tile. Your choice will depend
on the size of your r000m,
Treat yourself to a built-in vanity
table. This gives you extra coun-
ter space for pretty bates and
your more attractive bath and cos-
metic preparations. If your budget
permits, plan extra drawer space
underneath the vanity for your
linens and towels:
And finally colour. Your ceramic
tile is available in a great variety
of colours that can blend with, or
complement, coloured fixtures, Un-
less you are, particularly devoted
to white, do consider both coloured
tile and fixtures. But a word of
caution. Don't get involved. witlik
too many colours.
No more than two basic colours
should be used for fixtures, walls,
tile and floors: If you choose pale
pink ceramic wall tile, then paint
your walls above the tile a match-
ing- pink. Your bathroom fixtures
might be a medium brown or beige,
a combination of brown and pink,
or off-white.
In selecting accessories (shoWet
curtains, wihdow curtains, bath
set, towels) remember to use only
one stripe and one pattern. All
other areas should be plain. For
instance, if you like ,striped towels
and patterned curtains—don't use
patterned wallpaper!
Use good materials. - Labour
costs are high—it's not practical to
use inferior products, You'll enjoy
the easy upkeep of ceramic tile
You'll love the luxury of coloured
fixtures. So if you do it ,at all—do
it right!
The Fiorillo, Room

There is an extra room in every
Florida bungalow, It's not a liv-
ing room—although most of the
living is done there. It's not a
recreation room, either, It Is a
family room and it has 'become the
nerve centre of most southern
homes.
Unlike the recreation room, it is
On the same level -as the rest.of the
living area, and the furniture is
less .fcirmal than the living room,
The Florida room frequently has
wiodows, on three Sides. In this
respect it resembles the °nee popu-
lar Canadian gun room, Jalousie
windows are most' popular. The
floor is laid, with tiny, one inch
Mosaic tile, Because Wood is gen-
erally in disfavour (it warps in this
climate) ceramic tile has solved
both the floor and wall problem,
Bamboo and rattail furniture-la
Used—generally with upholstery in
-bright, all-over prints that do not
show soil. Matchstick blinds often
replace fabric draperies,
These have ibeen such happy
rooms that they are moving north.
More and more builders in the
Northern ,States and Canada are
Introducing the family'roomy. in
Safety in the automobile is optional at rio extra cost, No mechanical
safety device can replace the protection of careful driving.
Last year, traffic accidents claimed the lives of more Canadians
than ever befote, Someone was insured every 8 minutes. A car was
damaged every 48 seconds, Automobile insurance claims rose to more
than $150,000,000.
One result of, this is higher automobile insurance rates because
what is paid out in claims must be brought in by premiums': But even mate
important is the fact that yOtt hold your life, and the lilies of others, in
your hands when you get behind the wheel of a cat,
Safety pays dividends, saves lives, helps to lower your insuranc0
costs, Be dareful,
