plants and the snowing and level-
ing of the land adjacent to the
river bank. The object is to im-
prove and 'beautify this stretch of
the river so that • it could be used
as a picnic area when new grass
is established.
The cost of the operation will in
all probability be ,shared by the
town, the Berry Door Co., Ltd.,
,and several individuals who are
anxious to see a start made 'on a
proper park and have offered to
contribute,

on the Howson dam to permit the
replacement of boards in the flood
gate and so allovV• the water level
to be raised. to its normal positien.
For some years -past the, river,
level was lower than• 'it should': be
because the control 'gate was so

boards could not be kept in place.

SCHEDULE SET FOR
RAILINER SERVICE
The new diesel raiiiner which is
now operating on the Canadian
National 'Railway 'line through here
has created considerable interest.
However, there has been some con-
fusion as to its time of departure,
The following is the schedule of
the new service, which has knock-
ed off an hour in travelling time
between Wingham 'and Toronto,
The car leaves Wingham going
south every day' except Sunday
and Monday at 6.35 am. On Sun-
day it leaves at 06 p m., instead
of the Monday morning departure,
and arrives back at 9.56 every day
except Sunday. All times are
Eastern 'Standard, so you have to
add one hour for current daylight
saving time.
Also still running on the line is
a mixed train which takes pas-
sengers. It leaves Wingham on
Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays
at 2,14 p.m, for the south. It anak-

at 10 am, All times once again
are Standard,

mer season on Friday and will re-
main closed until. Sept, 8th, the
day after Labor Day. At Friday

Beattie announced award winners
for the year's work,
The Marlon Inglis medal for the
highest marks in Grade VIII on
the year's work went to Kathleen
Hodgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Hodgins.
The, general proficiency award,
donated by the Lions Club of
Wingham and awarded to a pupil
selected by the staff, was won by
Philip Adams,' son of Mr. and Mrs,
Alton Adams.
Debentures Sold
For H.S. Addition
Mayor R, E, McKinney announc-
ed on Monday that the Town of
Wingham had' sold its issue 'of de-
bentures which are being issued
to cover the cost of building the ad-
dition to the Wingharo District
High School.
The issue totals $225,000 and was
purchased by Gaindner, Son and
Co,, Limited at $98,62 with inter-
est at six per cent. The offer was
the 'best of twelve bids,
When the sale has been approv-
ed by 'the Department of Municipal
Affairs the council will give the
necessary 'by-law a third reading.

ed to Listowel Hospital, Mrs. Ev-

Dr. McMurchy
Dr. A. D. McMurchy was• the
guest speaker when the Junior
Sportsmen's Association met on
Monday evening of last week. The
gathering was held at the Associa-
tion's property in Turnberry and
the 'doctor addressed the boys on
"First Aid as It Affects the Hun-
ter",
After Dr. McMurchy's talk half
the club was taken to the ranges
for firing and the other half was
given field instruction.
