spoke to the ladies on "The Fes-
tivals of Japan" at their Easter
meeting. She 'had a ciisplay of
dolls which ape brought out and
set up for the Festival of the Dolls,
which is celebrated on March 3rd,
with much of the 'same spirit as
we decorate our Christmas tree,
The display had an Emperor doll,
an Empress, theNadies-in-Waiting,
the musicians, the War Lords 'and
others, Each little detail in the
dolls' costumes was perfect, May
brings the Festival of the Boys
then the boys and, their fathers
go out to fly kites, Contest of
speed and height are enjoyed.
Spring house-cleaning is done in
December in preparation for the'
New Year, which is celebrated the
first part of January, not just
January let, Many goodwill calls
are made in this period. Many
rice cakes have been made to serve
during these days, "There are
many other traditions observed at
this time. Mrs. Kato spoke of
other festivals hut said that .Christ-
mas is celebrated' by 99% of the
Japanese in Canada.
She closed by saying that "Can-
ada's culture is like the, facets of
a diamond; each one malting the
diamond more beautiful; , so the
culture of each country represented
in Canada has contributed to her
life and traditions making them

Mrs. Stanley Bride presided for
the meeting, the theme of which
was "Christian Conderns for Chris-
tian Stewardship". Reports of the
Presbyterial were given by Mrs,
Bride and Mrs. John Craig. A
moment's silence was observed in
memory of Mrs. J. Thompson, who
had been a former member.
Mr's. Harold Doig and her com-
mittee presented an after-Easter
worship service: Lunch was serv-
ed by the Town Group and a social
tithe- enjoyed. ,
