Debbie ;were summoned to Maple
Grove last week when Mrs. Grose's,
fathers Albert. Franklin Spencer,
died suddenly at his, home on

W. Grote (Kathleen) of Wingham
and one granddaughter, Debbie

Mr. and Mrs. Spencer were known
to, many in Wingham, having been
frequent visitors With their daugh-

stead of building an addition to the
present structure in Wingharn,
Mr. Cousins reported that fol-
lowing his investigation 'it did not
seem practical to buid a second
school. This =elution was reach-
ed when it was found that at best
only 91 pupils could be expected to
attend the second institution, and
that assessments to support the
plan would not be adequate.

quest of the Minister of Welfare,
Hen. Louis P. Cecile.
Midi Bessie Touzel, director of
the ontarlo Welfare ,Council, is the
chairman of the study group, which
also includes Father Swithun Bow-
ers of Ottawa, Miss Gwen DaVen-
port of Clarks On and John Johns-
ton qf Bracebridge.
Purpose of the' study is to bring
the standards of all, children's ins
atitutions up to present day leirels
l in the light of advancing knowledge
in this' field. Sittings of the com-
mittee will continue for several

a possible addition to the abltool.

In the discussions it was tenta"-
tively decided that, a six to eight
room addition to• the school would-
be required in order to aeconnme-
date the influx of pupils next year,
and to ask for Department of
Edueatibn approval, for same. •
A deputation from 'the :village of
Brussels; the, townships of Grey
'and Morris; .requested the hoard
to Consider the erection of another
schobi at Brussels, instead, of. an,
addition to the present school,
with. the r:new. school ,to •rertrait
under' the jurisdietion of the Wing-
ham District High School Board.
The general feeling of the,meet-
ing - was 'that the plan for another
aches:I was. -not practical, due to
:the cost- factors involved, .
The cost of an additien has not
been worked; out but the arehiteet
suggested a probable , figure or miniptration cost, plant facilities,
approximately $200,000, for . Six and extra building cost if a sec-
teems. and school was built in Brussels.

staff for a small school.
Officials also seem to be of the
opinion that a second -tchool, of
less than 250 pupils would not be
approved by the Department of
Education, or .at least such ap-
proval has not been forthcoming
in recent years.
