Bermuda is a charming collection
of islands, according to Miss
Brophy's interesting description
and the colorful films she showed,
With a semi-tropical climate, rich
vegetation, and fine scenery, it
attracts more tourists every year,
The heuses are painted in pastel
shades with white roofs. Flowers,
are abundant and beautiful. Life
is easy and pleasant for its 41,000
inhabitants, more than half of
whom are colored, No taxes are
paid in this Utopia. •
Mrs. M. L. Aitken introduced the
speaker, who was thanked and pre-
sented with a gifft by Mrs. M.
Craig,
Mrs, James Johnston gave the
motto, "There can he no peace
while racial discrimination IS
practised". She stressed :the int-

She said it is mat always realized
how eloSely the Ethic Society and
Christian Misaions are related to
each other. In Order that the mis-
sionary effort May reach its great-
est influence in, any country, the
Bible must be given to those people
in their own language, These trans-
lations are very expensive and re-
quire amen painstaking work, as
well as many hours of research,
before even the Gospels are ready
for distribution, In all this effort
the missionaries are willing and
valaed helpers. The expansion of
this work is hampered by leek of
funds, and, to this end,, local Bible
Society committees are being fortn-
ed in 'many communities, so that
the work of God may be placed in
the hands of everyone who is ready
and -anxious to' receive it, Mrs,
Thompson closed by saying that we
do not appreciate, as we should,
having, the Bible in our hands• at
all times, an, our own language,
Mrs. F. R, Howson in'esided and
opened the meeting with a, NOW
Year consecration prayer. The• de-
votions were conducted by Mrs. R.
Chamney and Mrs. L, Hingsten, A
piano solo from Mrs. Bruce Mac-
Donald was much enjoyed. "
Reports for 1958 were received
and showed the conclusion of a
successful year, The financial ob-
jective was exceeded and in addi-
tion $150.00 was raised for, an ex-
pense fund. It was found that 61
memhers contribute systematically
by envelope and that more than
600 calls• were made in the hospi-
tal and in the town, •The work of ,
the supply department was most
gratifying; •bales , and p,areels of
new and used clothing and quilts,
to the yalue.of $1,323 were sent to
overseas and home missions. Cards
were sent to the sick and shut-ins.
The secretary of, the communion
told that•six communions had neen
held 'with 1,487 participants. The
Baby Band leader reported 102
members on her roll and 23 had
been promoted to the Mission Band,
The officers for 1959 were in-
Stalled by Rev. T. G, Husser and
