Wingham's Intermediate
hockey
club, the Len ,Crawford Dodgers,
started off- their 58-59 schedule
this week when they were edged .by
•the Wiarton Redmen in the lake-
side town .on Monday evening by a
3-2 count, This was the first game
of the season, and within ,the, next
week the local" team will play one
of the heaviest sections of the sea-
son's. schedule, On Friday night
they play in Kincardine, on. 'Sat-
urday „ evening the Kincardine
squad plays a return match for the
first home game In Wingham. 'On
Monday the Port .Elgin aggrega-
tion visits 'Wingham,
+Strong beam
Present indicatipns are that the.
home town will have one 'of the
strongest intermediate teams of re-
cent years. As a homebrew squad
there should be more interest from
fans than in the past. The team
has been strengthened with the ad-
dition of several players who Barr-
ed with Goderioh in the Junior 'B'
loop last season. As well, several
newcomers to the community have
addedtheir playing skills to the.
old standbys, of other seasons,
Jim Bain, Barry Fry and Ken
Hodgkinson and Doug 'Murray are
back on the local line-up after
playing in with Goderich.
. g w h
Taking the net -minding chore is
Ted Parker, who played with Har
riston and is rated as tops in the
nets. Another now -comer to the
team is Doug Wallace, employed at
the local branch . of • the Bank of
Commerce, Doug played last Sea-
son with the Chesley Colts and bad
been with Port Elgin in previous
seasons, Ken Woods, of the Clin-
ton district and now on the staff
of the Wingham District ' High
School, • has also joined the local
team. Another Wingham boy, Ar-
nold Taylor, who completed a stint
with the Royal Canadian Navy last
spring, hasI signed p g, also ne s g d up. Don
o
Jardin has also joined the Dodgers'
line-up, after playing good hockey
with the minor teams in Wingham:
After considerable praotiee in the
last.few•weeks the boys are shap-
ing up into a top-notch team, and
if the 3-2 score at Wiarton on Mon-
day is a good indicator, the team
should end up in the upper brack-
ets, Sas the Wiarton Redmen are a
strong organization.and always put'
up top -grade hockey. '
Tlie Liue-up
Signed up with the team at the
moment are: Goal, Ted Parker; del
fence, Gord Cerson, Jim. Bain, El-
wood Irwin, Doug Wallace, Bill
Lockridge; forwards, Doug' Mur-
ray, Barry Fry, Ken Hodgkinson,
Ken Cerson, Bruce Lott, Murray
