"Jingle Bells" and all joined in

Takes Study Period
GORRIE--The Gnat of St, Mar-
tha 'of St, Stephen's Church met
at the home of Mrs., Earle King
on. Wednesday evening for the an-
nual meeting. The president, Mrs.
Mac Newton, was in charge and
opened 'with the Lord's prayer and
a prayer for the sick. The Scrip-
ture was from Luke 17:11-19.
The chapter on "The Sick" from
the study book, "H Cares", was
taken by Mrs. Harry King. Roll

Listowel District High School.
Class Valedictorian Russell Martin,
Vordwich, now enrolled at the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario, was
top student of the 1958 class, He
registered an average of more than
80 . per vent in eight subjects. He
also won eeVerel schelaiships.
Despite the stormy weather on
Saturday afternoon the tea and ba-
zaar at St, Andrew's Presbyterian
Church was quite successful,
Mrs. Alexander NImarto and Mrs.
T. R. Mailers greeted the guests
at the 'door. The home baking
table, which was well stocked at
the opening of the sale, was de-
pleted in short order, The mis-
cellaneous items, suitable for Christ-
mas gifts, were also popular.

GORRIE--. -The Woman's Mis-
sionary Society of the Gerrie Un-
ited Chureh held its Christmas
meeting in the board room, which
Was tastefully decorated in keep-
ing with the Christmas season.
Mrs. Whitley opened the meeting
with quiet tnusib. The devotions
were led by Mrs. Russell Ruttan,
Mrs, W. Strong and. Mrs. Whitley.
Mrs. Wes Strong chose verses from
Luke, telling the wonder of Mary
'being chosen by. God to be the
mother of Jesus. She also read
articles of Christmas thought per-
taining to gifts of 'peace and rest,
The Apostles' ,Creed was repeated
and Christmas hymns sung.
Mrs. Len Ruttan gave. an article
on Padre Young. "Christmas is the
expression of man's best self. It
is good to remember the first
Christmas as that night was •the
watershed of history, We take
fresh courage at Christmas, because
we know God is love." Mrs: Strong
