Melvin Rapp, brother of OScar
Rapp, of Wingham, died at his
home in Oakville on Wednesday of
last week. The funeral service was
held there on Friday with inter-
ment in St. Jude's Cemetery,
He is survived by his wife, the
former Louise Aitchison, and two
sons, George and Murray Rapp;
one sister, Mrs, M. Herbert, Lis-
towel; and four brothers, Roy and
Alvin, of Listowel, Oscar, of Wing-

United Church, the call to wor-
ship was given by Miss Effie Bow-
who introduced the theme,
"Are Strangers Enemies?"
MrssiChamney read the Scripture

er followed with comments. She
traced the treatment of the strang-
er in our midst ,from the selfish
tribal organization in the time of
Moses up through the. New Testa-
ment to our time, when the whole
world is the responsibility of the
Christian Chureli
The study was in, charge of Mrs.
James Henry and treated on Mis-
sions in Alaska, with the use' of a
map she traced the rise of Chils-
tian missions in Alaska from 1867.
"when that country was purchased
from Russia by the United States
to the present time. Different
Protestant denominations have sent
missionaries 'to that area, and they
are working, together, recognizing
one'another's territories. a As, Alas-,
ka, has a fast growing population,
it is agreed that no place of under
500 people has more than one de-
nomination working in its midst.
Mrs. Thos. Jardin sang the ap-
propriate solo, "The Sweet For-
ever", accompanied by Mrs. W. W.
'Currie at the piano.
Very briefly, Mrs. P. Gowans dis-
cussed the question of Christian
stewardship 'as it pertains to the
auxiliary, 'This was followed by
prayer by Mrs. Bert Armstrong,
The supply secretary reported
that two parcels had been sent to
Korea and six cartons of clothing
to Overseas Relief. The president,
Mrs. Fingland, welcomed two new
members and named the nominat-
h'ig committee, Mrs. B. Cruikshank,
Mrs. W. D. Clark and Mrs. Wel-
lings. The meeting was closed with
prayer by Mrs. Roulston,

The executive of the Wingham
and District Film Connell met in
the council chambers last' week
with the president, Envoy Stanley
Vow/nail, in the chair and reviewed
the activities of the past half year.
The number of times films had
been used indicated that they are
meeting local needs- and warrants
their continued existence.
It was moved that the member-
ship, committee again contact as
many as possible prospective mem-
ber groups and remind them that
the new year began on Sept,. 1st
and fees are now duea„.Anyono in-
